The working principle of diesel engines was established in 1893 by inventor Rudolf diesel. A diesel engine internally consists camshaft, valve, fuel injectors, pistons and crankshaft. The camshaft is what controls the valve and the valves control the combustion. There two set of valves in diesel engines one exhaust valve which where the waste or unburned fuel goes out from and an intake valve which the engine breaths from. The fuel injectors are responsible for supplying the cylinders with fuel. The pistons are forced down between a combustion strokes, the force exerted on the pistons are transferred through the crankshaft to the driveshaft.

The combustion in diesel engines does not work with spark like gas engines do. Unlike gas engine diesel engines take only air through the intake valve during the first stroke, during the second stroke the intake valves are closed and air is compressed as the air is highly compressed on the cylinder the temperature of the air rises and almost reaches one thousand three hundred degrees Fahrenheit, in the third stroke the diesel fuel is injected directly onto the cylinder, the fuel instantly ignites because of the high temperature of the air in the cylinder wall then the explosion pushes the piston down and the fourth stroke opens the exhaust
