Intro
Illiteracy is defined as the inability to read or write. There are purely illiterate; persons who cannot read or write at all and functionally illiterate; persons who can read and possibly write simple sentences with a limited vocabulary. In Malaysia, the government provides education in free public school for its citizens but many remain uneducated and illiterate. Illiterate persons are always typically labelled as stupid but in reality some of them are smart because they have developed the skills to get through life while hiding their illiteracy from others.

Illiteracy has strong effects in the life of the person who cannot read or write and it affects people around them.
Body
Illiteracy is a serious condition and can be hereditary that is it can be passed from generation to generation. Illiterate children may have illiterate parents because children learn from what they see and what they hear. If the parents are skilled in hiding their illiteracy therefore the children may think that they can also be like the parents and they can manage to survive and live without the ability to read or write. Since the children are illiterate, they will face major problems in their education and more likely to drop out from school. This will lead to a life of poverty. High position jobs require knowledge and skills which can only be obtained through significant level of education and this education demands literacy. Without the knowledge to read and write, an illiterate cannot pursue a diploma or a degree, forcing them to take lower position jobs. Lower position equals to lower wages and some low position jobs do not have health benefits resulting in poor health care for illiterate people and his family.
In addition, many illiterate people feel uneasy by the many forms that need to be read and filled out before they receive any medical treatment, open a bank account, lodge a report or complaint and others. They
