SUMMARY OF THE FUNCTIONS AND OBJECTIVE OF THE ACT
National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency is referred to as the act of response and detection to all oil spillages in Nigeria, which be an agency with perpetual succession. It is also a common seal and opened to be sued or may sue in its corporate name.
The Headquarter of the Agency is situated at the Federal Capital Territory Abuja. It may also in the nearest future establish Zonal Offices in the State of the Federation.
NOSDRA established a Governing board known as the National
Oil spill Response Governing Board that is responsible for the formulation of policy for the agency. These consists of a chairman and board members and are also guided by different rules and regulation in other for them to make good policy
ESTABLISHED ACT
The act which established NOSDRA was passed by the National assembly in 2005 and signed into law by the president on 18th October 2006.It’s responsibility is the detection and response to all oil spillages in Nigeria as set out in section 5 of the act. The agency is a corporate body and may sue and be sued in its corporate name. Its headquarters is in the FCT, Abuja with Zonal offices in other states of the federation. The agency has a governing board which is included in Part II of the established act.
OBJECTIVES OF THE AGENCY
Co-ordination and implementation of the National Oil Spill contingency which involves perfection of the environment through effective planning prior to and in the event of oil spill by harmonizing all available resources involving technical and professional personnel consisting various equipment for consolidation and cleanup of oil spill activities, harmonizing proper involvement of all relevant government agencies and ministries and private company making up the clean
