Funding for the Military

The bottom line is we need to maintain the current budget for the military, also known as the defense budget. Some people think that if we reduce funding, then nothing will happen. Well they are wrong. Funding for the Military is important. With it we protect smaller countries, we keep Israel together, and we will keep America safe. The United States has 737 military bases worldwide and with more than 2,500,000 troops deployed; the United States protects more countries than anybody else (737 U.S. Military Bases=Global Empire). We offer much needed Military and Economic aid to countries though out the world, including countries such as Israel and Afghanistan. The Military aid given to Israel comes out of the defense budget, and that is what keeps Israel from being ripped apart by the surrounding countries. Israel depends on the United States for protection against the surrounding countries. Israel receives $2,799,500,000 in military aid from the United States in 2010 (United States military aid). That money was then used for protection for their civilians and military personnel from terrorist organizations that are bent on the destruction of Israel, such as Hezbollah. (Hala Jaber, Hezbollah Born With A Vengeance, New York, Colombia University Press, 1997) Due to Israel being such a small country, the money given to Israel is vital to its continual existence because it is unable to raise enough funds to support the Military and the Military equipment that is so badly depended upon. Counties usually use their Military (or their Military aid) to keep their civilians safe, in Israel as well as in the U.S. The United States military is the key ingredient in the prevention of terrorist attacks. It’s hard for Al Qaeda to plan an attack when the amazing, all powerful, SEAL Team 6 is knocking on their door and dropping Al Qaeda leaders while the Army and Marines are taking out their foot soldiers. The Taliban and AL Qaeda’s main requirement strategy is terror, and it’s hard for them to get recruits when the civilians population sees them getting smoked by M-1 Abrams and Apache Longbow Attack helicopters. But the problem is some people feel that United States spending 683.7 billion in the protection of itself and several other notable countries (United States Defense Budget). Many people want the defense budget reduced because they must feel that the safety of civilians has a price. Can one really put a price on an innocent life? Cutting the defense budget can and will have terrible consequences, some of which one cannot fathom. Car bombs will be going off in the streets of New York, and our economy will die because people will be too afraid to leave because of the daily terrorist attacks. The defense budget is fine. It doesn’t need to be increased like some people feel, and it certainly doesn’t need to be decreased, because the defense budget covers the defense of sovereign nations, Israel, and our American Citizens.
