Funny In Farsi Dumas Analysis
Authors Dumas and Asgedom both wrote memoirs about characters that talk about their life coming to America.In Funny in Farsi Dumas gives and Entertained story about her life coming to America. In the story Beetles and Angels, Asgedom constructs and informative text about when he came to America, by listening to his parents leads him to accomplish his goals in life. Both of these authors discuss valuable people that come to America. In the book Funny in Farsi , Dumas focuses on her story about her life coming to America, and leaving her country Iran. The author expresses her feelings about her life coming to America. His parents give him a lot of support by giving him puzzles to solve to reach his goals. He also uses strategies. The first strategy he uses in his story is imagery. He uses this strategy to explain to the readers how he got inspired by one of his classmates makes a big difference. “One of my co-workers called her over, gently sat her down and typed the letter.It was a simple act.”(pg.163,para.16).Another strategy he uses in his story is all caps. He uses this in his story to explain how his father would’ve said at his graduation speech.’I TAUGHT HIM TO WORK HARD AND TO RESPECT OTHERS AND LOOK WHERE HE IS NOW (pg.160,para.2).” The last strategy he uses in his story is figurative language.     The two main characters in The Stotan are Walker and Jeff. Walker is the main character in this book; he narrates the book by writing in his journal. Walker is the captain of the swimming team in his high school. He has many issues in his life for example his brother being a drug addicted and his parents being old for the age that they had him. He does his best not to let any of it get to him and always does his best to encourage his team mates during the season. Jeff is the oldest out of all of the friends and team mates. He is also to be considered the most mature in the entire group. He has a reputation of being considered a “tough guy” and was diagnosed with a blood disease and is becoming much weaker every day and is expected to die. In the beginning of the book the coach of the Robert frost high school swim team ask for some volunteers for stotan week. Four of the boys on the swim team decide to sign up. When the boys signed up they did not realize that their entire winter break would be spent doing 4 hour work outs during stotan week. During stotan week the four boys began to get to know each other pretty well and eventually started sharing things about their personal lives.
