Seals possess multiple peculiar features. Harbor Seals can exist until they are approximately thirty years old. Fur Seals are the noisiest of the seals producing sounds consisting of yelps, yips, yaps, grunts, and screeches. Despite the Harbor Seal living until it’s thirty, the walrus, can survive until it’s forty years old! Walruses enjoy sunbathing. Their wrinkled skin gets sunburned and their skin turns red. Weddell Seals have nostrils that close so they can glide underwater for extended periods of time. Surprisingly,female leopard seals also known as “cows”, are substantially bigger than the males which are known as “bulls”. Elephant seals molt which means their fur falls out. The walruses wallow in the mud because their fur and dead skin
sticks to the mud. Monk seals are oddly different than the other seals because they prefer warm waters and they are endangered. There are only a thousand Monk Seals in the Mediterranean Sea and around seven hundred around the coasts of Hawaii. Although seals possess peculiar features, they all are the same species.
