Russian Novelist and Philosopher
Fyodor Dostoyevsky was a Russian novelist, philosopher, short story writer and essayist. He was born in Moscow Russia in the early 1800’s and wrote philosophical works that stimulated human thoughts. He died at the age of 59.

Time Period/ Genre: All of Fyodor Dostoyevsky wrote all of his work between 1846 and 1881. Poor Folk was the first social novel in Russian history as Vissarion Belinsky (most important critic in that time period) would have described it. Fyodor Dostoyevsky wasn’t like most other writers, his writing helped evolve 20th century novels.
His genre was novels, short stories, and journal entries about Psychology, philosophy, religion. He was a realist.

His Writing: Themes he uses a lot in his writing where those that involved suicide, manipulation, morality, and poverty. After Dostoyevsky got released from prison he became more religious and one of his most common themes was religion. Throughout his career, many writers began to accuse him of plagiarism because he would talk about others writers writing, and would have to use quotes from them.
