Gabriel Garcia Marquez Connection Body Paragraphs
1.) Main Claim/Thesis: Throughout both “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings” along with “The Most Handsomest Drowned Man in the World” Marquez demonstrates human flaws with satire within the actions of the major and subordinate characters portrayed in the stories.
2.) Body Paragraphs:
From beginning to end in “Avery Old Man with Enormous Wings” along with “The Most Handsomest Drowned Man In The World” Marquez illustrates the human flaw of greediness evidently through various actions taking place. An example of greediness from “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings” is portrayed from the two characters Pelayo and Elisenda with their actions towards the angel such as keeping him “locked him up with the hens in the wire chicken coop” for their own wellbeing (Marquez pg. 588). Not only does Marquez describe the two characters as greedy, but he also shows what extent humans will go through just to get what they want. This situation automatically shows satire to the reader that will heighten throughout the story. An event of greediness from “The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World” is illustrated through various women taking care of the diseased man “secretly [comparing] him to their own men…and they ended up dismissing them…as the weakest, meanest, and most useless creatures on earth” because they wanted more from them for their own good (Marquez paragraph 5). Not only does Marquez render the fact that the women want more of their husbands, but he also displays how people are not satisfied easily. This event helps build onto the major topic of satire that continuous to grow. These events help build the satire Marquez continues to illustrate throughout the stories.
Not only is greediness displayed throughout the stories, but also the human flaw of needing to gossip is being shown to the reader as well. A case where this is being shown in “A Very Old Man with
