Mayor Speech
This city is really important to me, it is the city I grew, the city I live and the city that I will stay by the rest of my life, but this city has problems, a lot of problems, and I'm here to fix those problems, I'm here to change numbers, I'm here to break records and I'm here to make a better São Paulo. Economic development, transportation and lack of public safety. All of these are a huge problem in São Paulo. I'd like to fix those problems, change numbers and change this city that honest people built for a long time. I'm Gabriel Lopes, and I'm going making. São Paulo the city of the honest and important people.
Let's talk about security, its problems and my solutions. Last week, my best friend was

Henry Levine’s candidate’s speech consisted of primarily cognitive context only when outlining your prior achievements, which he says you could have used to help the city. This benefits Henry Levine’s speech by illustrating to voters that you are smart and had the knowledge to help give the Oakland people the changes they wanted during your time in office, but you did not accomplish. Although the candidate’s speech is primarily emotive when Henry Levine is trying to illustrate how you have failed at changing the city. Some examples of this are “Why then do we, the upstanding residents of Oakland, find our streets littered with young and disgruntled vagrants calling for anarchy” And “We need to look no further than the house of cards built…

On this speech critique, the person that I had the pleasure to critique was Javier Garcia with his speech on “What Is Engineering?” Throughout this speech critique report, I’m going to explain some of the sections that Javier covered very well and some of the sections that he needs improvement in. Also, with an explanation of why I gave him a certain score in a section and advice on how to improve upon it. I’m going to start off with the first section, out of the three, involved with the speech evaluation form.…

Dr. Christina Bueno gave an informative and interesting speech on the history on archeology in Mexico. Other than taking a history of Latin America, I have not studied much of the ancient cultures in Mexico, but I was very interested in the material Dr. Bueno went over. In her speech, she goes over only three of the ten-thousand archeological sites in Mexico. My favorite one she went over was on the Aztec city of Tenochtitlan. I was fascinated how the city was organized and just how enormous it was.…

Over the United State’s history many groups of minorities have fought for freedom from oppression, however, the most acknowledged protests are peaceful. Cesar Chavez, in his magazine article, underscores the dire need for nonviolence that is able to effectively end oppression and prevent physical suffering by referencing other leaders of successful protests and implementing an empowering tone.…

It is interesting that Chavez chooses to address Mexican Americans about the misuse of the Church’s funding because they themselves probably do not have much to offer. If his audience does not have much monetary support to offer him, then is his ideal audience too far removed from reality or is this intentional? If this is intentional, he is using his audience to prove that it is not so much about the finances of the people, but how the people of the Church use the money they do have. He must not be saying to give more money, or if he is, then he will probably not be as successful as if he were speaking to a different demographic. Therefore, he must be advocating for the people to spend the Church’s money more wisely and to stop tolerating the passivity of the Catholic Diocese when it comes to social justice.…

My grandmother play one of the must important roles in my life. She have been with me since the first day of my life when I was born. She is a mother of 5 children, my 3 ankles, my aunt and my mother. Through her life she have always to put on us all the good values of our culture. She have been a strong mother who worked all her life to give her 5 children a better life than what she had. While an interview I did with her, she spoke to me about her mother, my great grandmother who died 8 years ago at age of 102 years old. She told me a little bit of her lives as children, they were 15 brothers and sister and always lived together till each one of them got marry and move to their own lives. Today there is only 7 of the left. While in this interview I asked my grandmother about the government during her childhood, she spoke to me about Rafael Leonidas Trujillo, a dictator who controlled The Dominican Republic for about 31 years. She told me how cruel he was and how strict everything was during that time “ Nuestras vidas eran como un infierno” (life was like hell), she described how this man always got what e wanted to get not matter what or who it was, “fue el tiempo mas duro que vivimos en Rep Dom nadie tenia control de nada solo el, “el chivo” ” ( this was the hardest time we lived in the Dom Rep nobody had control of anything but him, “The goat”).…

Rodriguez’s speech means that intellect is not simply defined by going to school and getting conventionally good grades, but by the pursuit of knowledge. He means that education does not end after high school or even college, our minds should constantly be feeding and learning new things so we can continue to grow. Learning is messy, learning contains mistakes, it may look like a series of failures but if you persist you can achieve great things. Learning even looks different on everyone and that is not strange. We can become so focused on just getting by with good grades in school we can forget what an amazing opportunity we have, and when we can access to each other’s minds the possibilities are endless.…

Urbanisation (the movement of people from rural to built-up areas) in Sao Paolo is increasing rapidly. Being the largest city in the southern-hemisphere, with a population density of 21,000km2, it is constantly growing in size. However the rate of increase is slowing, along with the reduced rural-urban migration and natural increase rates. The population of central areas is also decreasing; a pattern that mirrors that of cities in more affluent parts of the world. The city was initially increasing in size because it was a ‘centre of agriculture’, with exports including coffee and cotton. The city continues to develop today as an industrial centre with manufacturing and services. These industries offer reliable employment to…

    1. Two historical events that I observed in the museum were the California Gold Rush and The Signing of the California Land Claims Act. The California Gold Rush of 1849 brought large numbers of new immigrants from Mexico, Central American and South America to California. The presence of gold made California tremendously valuable to the United States. The Gold Rush funded money for the union to buy supplies and fire arms for its military. The Gold Rush stood out to me because of all the back ground information and analyzing we did in class and its importance in both Mexican and American History. The second event I observed was the signing of the California Land Claims Act, after the Mexican American War, Mexican American land owners in United States territory began to lose their land at an alarming pace. Either through fraud or force, Mexicans living in United States regions were often stripped of their rights to their land. This act really stuck me on how unfair our government was to our own people and how the government can abuse its power.…

The slums I think have become more violent than they used to be in the story of “Flavio’s Home”. There are more riots and fights between officers and citizens. When the World Cup was coming up, the Police Force had used tear gas and rubber bullets to remove residents from their homes to try to make the place looks cleaner. They just left all those people homeless. But some residents did not take this lightly, they put a fight and they fought hard. The drug trafficking has increased incredibly over the years. It has caused many gun fights between civilians and the police. Murder rates have also increased. Rio De Janeiro has always been down hill because of so many slums but it now being taken over by drugs and…

More security measures at school, colleges and public places: This can be achieved by educating about security measures, maintaining high alert surveillance in the schools, colleges, public places in the community. More personnel can be trained with special trainings to tackle such issues and to be prepared for any such emergency responses with adequate communication system and coordination. The citizen’s gains out of this since with tight security, it would be difficult for those violent plans to take place. However, a disadvantage is that such trainings or surveillance cannot be maintained at such a large scale all over the country at a very fast pace and would need time. Also, the monitoring can be bypassed and cannot assure complete safety.…
