Gale Hawthorne versus Peeta Mellark:
A Look at Peeta Mellark and Gale Hawthorne “May the odds be forever in your favor,” were the last words she heard before being sent away to the Capitols entertainment battlefield. “…Quote from Caesar Flickerman about them winning at the end…..” said Caesar Flickerman, the host of the Hunger Games television show in a cheerful voice though peopled had just been slaughtered all in the name of entertainment. Little do the people of the Capitol know, Katniss’ love for Peeta could have been all for show, because her heart has secretly been left at home with her boyfriend, Gale Hawthorne. In the beginning it appears as though Gale Hawthorne is Katniss’ only love; however, upon volunteering herself as tribute in place of her sister, she grows closer to a bakery boy from her same district, who had been in love with her ever since the moment he laid eyes on her, and realizes the significance of each and how each helps her succeed in the Games. Before Katniss ever leaves her home in Panem’s District 12, she is dating her hunting partner Gale Hawthorne who, like her, is very poor and struggles to survive. Gale’s father died in the same mine explosion as Katniss’ father which makes them all the more close. Gale is active, angry at the Capitol for all they have done, and outspoken which reflects on Katniss as they both hunt together, taking care of family, acting as providers for their families. Though Gale is not necessarily a match for Katniss, despite their similar backgrounds and friendship, they get along and understand each other. For the most part, Gale and Katniss have an equilibrate liaison where they are both equal in the woods
