Galileo Galilei is considered to be the most predominant scientists during the 17th century for the astronomical discoveries that he made using a telescope. He utilized the telescope in the year of 1616. Galileo faced numerous challenges and remarkable discoveries which impacted science forever. The telescope was first invented by a Dutch eyeglass maker named Hans Lippershey in 1608, but it was Galileo who first commenced the astronomical discoveries by pointing the telescope towards the sky (Madoney, 2009). It is important to recognize Galileo’s work with telescopes, astronomical discoveries, society and the church.
Galileo’s telescope and his astronomical findings
The telescope was first invented by a Dutch eyeglass maker named Hans Lippershey in 1608. Hans Lippershey primary objective when he built the telescope was to make the objects at farther distance to look bigger and closer through the magnifying lens. As soon as Galileo heard about Han’s Lippershey telescope, Galileo started showing more interest with that invention. By 1609 Galileo started working on his own telescope. One of the most important features that were …show more content…
During the 1990, NASA launched The Hubble Space Telescope which was the largest telescope in space (What is the Hubble Space Telescope, 2013).The Hubble telescope have utilized the Hubble Space telescope in learning more about the space, objects discovered in space, and how the planets and galaxies formed. The name of the telescope came from an astronomer named Edwin P.Hubble who accomplished many significant discoveries during the early 1900s (What is the Hubble Space Telescope, 2013) His discoveries included finding many galaxies which led to the conception of the universe increasing in size and resulting in an explosion. This explosion was then entitled by scientists as the Big Bang (What is the Hubble Space Telescope,
