The quote, “Earth has enough to satisfy every man's need, but not every man’s greed.” relates to the historical event of The Mexican-American War because the idea ¨Manifest Destiny” was based off of greed. This is because during the Mexican-American war, the Americans had an idea of “Manifest Destiny”, which was greedy and bias because the Americans thought they were better and deserved more land. The reason this connects to Gandhi’s quote is that Tom Robinson’s trial happened because Bob Ewell was greedy; and he wanted to cover up beating his daughter. He was also poor and didn’t take care of his children because he often spent money on whiskey. This quote,¨The man had to have some kind of comeback, his kind always does. So if spitting in my face and threatening me saved Mayella Ewell one extra beating, that's something I'll gladly take. He had to take it out on somebody and I'd rather it be me than that houseful of children out there. You understand?¨ on chapter 23 of ¨To Kill a Mockingbird¨ means that the trial was an effort to help save Mayella as well as Tom from Bobś greediness which sadly failed. Atticus did not want Bobś greediness to take over the children's lives and because their father could not provide for them. This demonstrates that greediness does not have to be related to money, but can be related to many other parts of
