The globalization has lead to make every big incident, fact or event happening in any part of the world the topic of people’s conversations. Recently, a song sung by a South Korean(in his native language) rapper/entertainer Park Jae-sang, better known by his stage name Psy, was this topic. A lot views were kept forward regarding by various people but anyone could tell that they were overwhelmingly positive by just listening to the fever it had spread among the people. Because Korean is not an international language, few people claimed in to be all greek to them but against all such odds, the song was a record breaker and probably the greatest hit for Psy uptil now.
The song, Gangnam style, is a part of Psy’s 6th song album, ‘PSY 6 (Six Rules), Part 1’ which was released in the month of July 2012 and by the 14th of August, it rocketed itself to become the most viewed video of the month on Youtube with over 600 million views. It was also charted #1 on the iTunes Music Video Charts on 21st of August by beating the former hits of Katy Perry and Justin Bieber. After the confirmation of success, the song was perfomed live in a couple of places like Toronto, New York, etc. Moreover, hot moms, Gandalf the Grey, "My Little Pony," Navy men and marching bands’ parodies of this song and the influence of it upon the old and a few parliamentary people, like U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, also tells the tale of the success of this song even though it was not able to beat Maroon 5’s ‘One more night’ on the Billboard hot 100 and remained on the second position. The song became to be recognised as an ‘International Sensation’ by U.N.
The reason why this song progressed so well is actually that its lyrics completely cope with the mentality of youngsters of this time. The song’s title phrase, ‘Oppa gangnam style’ means that ‘(girls!)Older brother is Gangnam style’. The proper meaning of it can be understood well when one is aware of the history of the phrase
