The National Security Minister calls on the parents and residents of the country to assist in the campaign to stop gang violence by reporting the signs to the relevant agencies which are being put in place to intervene in gang incidents. Dr Nottage also talks of some the plans to divert youths from indulging in gang activities, some of the solutions mentioned where conflict resolution strategies, through programs.
Gang violence has become a common trend in various countries including Trinidad and Tobago. Many governments have tried to alleviate gang activities but the most successful might have been to reduce the level of activities. All communities are shaped through different cultures the government attempts to stop gang violence needs to reach deeper in the communities than simply enforcing laws. In my opinion every individual has unique problems; whereas some techniques may work for a particular set of residents another village may need a different intervention.
I recommend that there be representatives from different communities and village to assess the issues to have a better look at what the community may need and the government and any other organizations can assist with linkages and resources for the betterment of the citizens. Policies plays a very important part in the running a country and they should be created to improve society. More workshops should be held before to assess societal needs as well as to equip persons whether it may be in the social services area or security personnel
