Growing up and knowing who I am, my values, my culture and where I fit in, in this world and the societies that I interact with were all the things that made me who I am today. As a teenage of course its all about fun and living wild but the big question is why do young people join gangs ?
As a result from gang is evident as one of the bad influenced on young peoples lives the statistics that I found online From most of the article I read online , they have the same theory of why teenagers should not join gangs at all which is “Gang members join a gang by either committing a crime or undergoing an initiation procedure where in they are beaten by fellow gang members to test their courage and fighting ability.” This is most likely why gang is inappropriate but for other teenagers they sacrificed everything even their own lives on the line to join a gang. Popularity, attention and absent of love from families are some of the reasons why most teenagers join gangs nowadays but not knowing that the consequences are much harder to deal with than joining the group at the first place. I'm not assuming that these are the only reasons why teenagers join gangs because there are millions out there but a “gang” is consider the most dangerous weapon that destroys teenage lives.
I got a chance to speak and talk with the Whanau correction centre teenagers through our youth activity and majority of them were impressionist because the crimes they committed were orders from their gang leaders. It was quite shocking hearing what they have been through while they were in gangs. They had a feeling of marginal, adolescents join gangs for social relationships which gave them a sense of identity but without knowing that they had been throwing away their own futures for something that it is not worth living for. They said it was just a thing to make them feel human and loved by others also a word of mouth for there
