Often, movie studios push sequels after the success of their predecessor even when there’s clearly no need for it. Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 quickly comes to mind as a production that served absolutely no purpose whatsoever – other than to make a sad attempt by a studio to cash in on said past earnings.…
Scarface, starring Al Pacino, is the greatest film to ever hit the film industry. Scarface was released in December 1983 and is technically assumed to be a remake of the 1932 Scarface movie. The 1932 Scarface film was centered in Chicago during the Depression-era, however, the 1983 remake shifted the action from Chicago to Miami during the 1980s-era (Bayard). The directors did this on purpose; because the 1980s-era was the time the Mariel Harbor boat lift happened, thus in a approach to give the movie a new relevance (Berardinelli).…
As mentioned earlier, the way in which the mobster’s and their families are dressed is a direct visual correlation to their role and or manifestation of status within the confines of Henry Hill’s story.…
A major theme that I would like to focus on in the movie Scarface is criminality. This film is littered with criminals and is the basis of the whole movie. Three techniques that I believe identify the theme are costumes, lighting, and acting style.…
According to a web article called “Tupac is Alive (and Probably Living in Cuba): A Conspiracy, Explained” written by James Parham, rapper Tupac Shakur was never shot and killed on September 13, 1996. He believes that the world’s most known rapper is not dead and is hiding out in Cuba. Parham states his claim saying quote, “So, my theory: Overwhelmed by fame and seeking "happiness again" (as he yearned for on "So Many Tears"), Tupac faked his death and fled to Cuba to stay with his aunt, Assata.” He claims that there are many questions surrounding Tupac’s alleged death. Parham suggests questions based on a picture that was published after Tupac’s death. The picture was supposedly taken the day after Tupac was shot…
Author Gary Krist attitude and/or tone towards Mayor Thompson is portrayed quite frequently throughout the book City Of Scoundrels. Showing his response to how the Mayor handles each situation in each disaster or political event going on. From handling the race riots Krist portrays how involved Mayor Thompson tries to be with the situation alone. Lone his vast support base from the African Americans and his support he gives them, he stays distant when decisions have to be made. Though uses his respect for the African American community to find his way to ‘victor’. Thompson uses his ‘somewhat’ wise tactics to keep his public figure on the good side. Krist voices his opinion on how remote the Mayor keeps upon the choices he has to make, while…

The Epic of Gilgamesh is an ancient Mesopotamian epic about a king who is two thirds god and one third man. The king does not meet his expectations of leadership as he is selfish and often angers the Gods. When his companion Enkidu dies, Gilgamesh goes off on a quest to attain immortality. He fails in this quest and eventually dies, but through his travel he came to terms with his own mortality and his greatness lived on. While the main characters are men, women have small but important roles in the Epic of Gilgamesh. The women in this epic reveal that ancient Mesopotamians valued womenÕs roles as child bearers and transmitters of civilization. While the Epic of Gilgamesh reveals much about Mesopotamian religion, the goddesses described also reveal, in some ways, how the Mesopotamian viewed and valued women. Ishtar is the goddess of both love and war, this shows that women have the power to be both wonderful and productive or destructive and horrible. A womanÕs most important role in life is to bear children and a woman who cannot bear children is seen as destructive to the population. Only a woman has the capacity to create life and that makes her important and valuable. The one who created the earth, according to the Epic of Gilgamesh, was a goddess, a woman. The wife of the sun is the dawn, giving birth to a new day. Because of…
Nebraska has been on the fence for quite a while when it comes to the death penalty. Now the time has come for the state to decide if the death penalty should be reintroduced as the maximum punishment. I say yes it should. Nebraska is questioning the death penalty because it is believed to be a cruel and unusual punishment, but let me ask you this. Do you think that the criminals that receive the death penalty cared about the form of cruel and unusual punishment that they put their victims through? No, they did not. These villains didn’t care about how their victims felt as they enjoyed the sick feeling of satisfaction from the sound of their victims screams for mercy. The felons that deserve the death penalty and don’t receive it have a chance of showing up on Nebraska’s streets to continue with their fixation. Nebraska’s law enforcers today have the technology and resources to eliminate the chances of convicting the wrong person. These heartless slaughterers are a threat to everyone’s livelihood. Having Nebraska’s courts reintroduce the death penalty decreases the crime rate, frees up space in Nebraska’s over-crowding prisons, and eradicates the chances of killers from seeing the streets again.…

Duality exists in all aspects of the world- in the light of the stars against the dark of the night sky or the vibrant spring colors and the desolation come winter. The dual nature of this world has added deep lines between right and wrong, but of course both will present themselves and both will always, in some way, shape, or form, affect one another. In the Devil in the White City the author, Erik Larson, not only informs the audience about a colossal architectural turning point for our nation, but he entices the reader into a state of jittery tension that is enforced by continuous amounts of alarming duality.…
Ridley Scott’s film American Gangster tells the story of Harlem gangster Frank Lucas and his rise to power in the late 1960s. However, underneath the plot of the film, American Gangster is an excellent case for a striving sociologist to dive headfirst into as it can have several models in the academic field of sociology. The Structural Functional Theory, the Symbolic Interactionist Theory and Conflict Theory can be used to explain the rise of Frank Lucas, who became one of the most high-profile American gangsters of the 20th Century.…
The gangster movie genre is one of the most popular among the modern movies and some of the best film directors have produced some very excellent gangster movies. For my first film analysis, I decided to analyze my favorite gangster movie of all time. The movie that I analyzed is called “Scarface” and is directed by Brian De Palma. It was released in 1983 and is still a super hit movie today. Let me go through a short summary of the movie.…
Gymnastics is a different and interesting sport. Most sports have one thing to focus on. In Gymnastics, there are four events to focus on: the vault, bars, beam and floor. Your hands get ripped, you get sore, you can tear, break, and sprain many parts of your body during practice.. Even when you hurt yourself, you have to get back up and keep going to succeed. Gymnastics is harder than other sports because you have a lot of conditioning, you don’t wear any protective gear, and you have to be hard worker.…
In the 1980s, we saw many different genres of music emerge, genres such as Pop, Rock, and R&B. But a new genre emerged that sparked a lot of controversy: “Gangsta Rap” otherwise known as Hip Hop. Rappers/Rap groups such as NWA, Run DMC, Big Daddy Kane, and more changed the industry with catchy tunes and lyrics that talked about hard topics like slavery, violence, and police brutality. These lyrics sometimes caused major conflict, whether between races or with civilians and police. Hip Hop was very controversial in the 80s. “Gangsta rap” has caused a lot of controversy, many people protested this music in the late 80s and 90s due to the message within its lyrics and what those lyrics conveyed. Many accused “Gangsta Rap” for promoting things such as crime, killings, profanity, drugs, sex, racism, and more. But Gangsta rap doesn’t influence this type of lifestyle; it’s telling a story/conveying a message of the individuals who wrote the lyrics.…
