gap year
There are approximately ten out of ten students that would take a gap year before attending college rather than just applying for college right away. Undoubtedly a nice break from all this pressure would be just perfect but not really helpful for graduates. Therefore, students that do not attend college right after high school tend to lose time. The actual concept is to register into college after graduating from high school. If graduates get a year off after high school they will not get the college experience. School is not just about learning the essentials; it is about deciding what a student wants to be, and which college a student wants to attend. Students should not take a gap year because they are more likely to forget everything they have learned during their high school years and it also affects their motivation for learning.

Students that attend college after high school without taking a gap year have a knowledgeable mind and preserve more of what they were taught in school to participate in their college courses. However, students that take a gap year tend to lose their knowledge and it will be difficult for them to get back on track. Instead of all the suffering and anxiety on making the right choice to which college to apply to, just get it over with. Rather than risking their life and career. In "The Gap Year," Hannah Purnell (2013) argues that students are going to forget and move out of formation of the academic skills. It will be a difficult for them and they are not going to be fully prepared on the first day of college after having a gap year.

In Anne Orthwood's Bastard, John Ruston Pagan focuses our attention on the legalities surrounding a single case of out-of-wedlock pregnancy in seventeenth-century Virginia. Prosecutions for fornication and premarital pregnancy were common matters in early modern courts in Virginia, British North America, and England. Through Pagan's narrative, this seemingly routine case gains significance for early American legal history. He argues that the event, its characters, and the legal suits it generated, revealed that by the last half of the seventeenth century, Virginians had shaped a distinct legal culture on the Eastern Shore.…

Chris Kelly’s article, “Viewpoint: Gap years are good for students –and for schools” published in USA Today offers countless examples as to why taking a year off before college is beneficial for students. Kelly starts the article by using former president Barack Obama’s daughter, Malia Obama, as an example of a great student taking a year before college to get herself ready for the next stage of her life. He continues his claim by expressing that while in the past colleges have frowned upon taking a gap year, colleges today are actually suggesting students to take a constructive year off to get themselves mentally and physically ready before attending a university. Colleges believe students who do this come to college more ready to succeed…

Instead of pressuring students to complete a certain course, schools should support students in the decisions they want to make. In the article Why I'm telling my students not to go to college, Gordon, a student teacher in agricultural education at Ridgemont Public schools in Ridgeway, Ohio says, “we know that it may not be the best choice for them, we are cheating them of reality and a worthy, challenging education simply because they are the textbook version of a ‘good student’ (Gordon). A sufficient grasp of history, literature and philosophy is the most important things needed in order for one to understand the time and place that they are present in. The freedom to choose for oneself is the most valuable thing a parent, society, and teachers can give a student. There is nothing wrong with taking time off after high school or going to a community college.…

Brian Witte explains the 3 myths of the gap year in this article. In the United States, the popularity of the gap year has just recently been growing. According to Brian Witte, the cause behind this unpopularity is because of the myths told about taking a year between your senior year of high school and freshman year of college. The first myth of taking a gap year is that “a gap year is like a vacation” (Witte). Many students decide to work to either make some extra money or put the money earned into their college tuition. Some students volunteer for more experience towards their major or what they plan on doing in life. Although every student chooses a different path, “each of these options involves effort” (Witte). Another popular myth is…

In Pharinet’s “Is College for Everyone?” she discusses that while many benefit from college, others may not belong there. “It is estimated that in the U.S., 50% of students who begin college never graduate” because they are not ready for the academic and financial challenges of college or do not have the desire to learn (635). Between the cost for tuition, books, school supplies, housing expenses, meals, and gasoline, many students are caught in really difficult financial situations. Pharinet also points out that some students are just not ready for the academic responsibilities or do not have the desire to learn. There are other options outside of college. A student could attend trade school or take a year or two off from school to discover who they are and what they want to do with their life.…

This is because it is required to have a high school diploma or a college degree to get certain jobs. Also, according to Missy Remiss, “Those without a high school diploma have lower earnings, higher unemployment, lower job satisfaction-they even have a higher likelihood of ending up in jail or on public assistance.” To conclude, students need to stay in school until they are…
