Garbage Out Personal Statement
Shortly after high school, I enrolled in a computer science course that introduced me to the concept of Garbage in Garbage Out (GIGO). Over the years, the logic of that concept remains with me in every project I manage, participate in, or troubleshoot both technical and non-technical. As the course progressed, I became more and more fascinated by how logic could be utilized to create software programs that make life easier or artificial intelligence that actually problem solves. This sparked my interest in the field of computing. Unfortunately, I did not possess the confidence or support system necessary to pursue it as a career at that stage of my life. My father, my support system, had unexpectedly passed away, leaving me a little lost …show more content…
I was a young mother raising three daughters, so I postponed it believing I could have my second act, career wise, once they completed their education. What I did not anticipate was a personal health crisis impacting my plans. In 2007, my doctors diagnosed me with idiopathic kidney disease. That diagnosis left me battling for my life at a young age, changing my career plans and personal priorities. To keep my hand in the professional world while I battled the disease, I co-founded DormSmart.com, an e-commerce company. As I became more involved in building this online business, I quickly realized that the availability and affordability of quality web design services for small business owners is sorely lacking in the e-commerce industry. The internet is the wild west where anyone can stake their claim selling design and development services even if they are unable to adequately provide them. This realization further fueled my desire to pursue a career in the field of computing, specifically web design and development. So once fully recovered, I transferred ownership of DormSmart.com and began devoting my time to researching graduate programs to achieve my goal, begin my second

I came to ATA because I’m in the Connect program and to take the fire rescue course here at the ATA. I choose fire rescue because I like to help people out in situations that they are facing in their life. My other goal is to go to Horry Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) for my Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). In a few years after I get my EMT I will go back to HGTC for my Paramedic License and get paid to do this type of work every time I’m on shift. When I got to the age I could start school, I was excited. I started school like any other kids my age did. Kindergarten through first grade were fun for me. Second grade came and that is when things started happening that I did not like, and third grade I absolutely hated. I was being bullied and was ignored by teachers. I was viewed differently just because that school thought I should have been in special ed. They got their way for a little while, by having my parents sign some papers that would provide some extra help, but the contract never said I would be in special ed. My parents were absolutely furious when they found out I was in special ed when they did not give permission to the school to put me in there. So came the time to move. I started attending Udall Schools in fourth grade. I was welcomed by a class that was eager to know me and teachers willing to help. My teachers helped me learn the concepts I missed from the previous school.…

On this scorching hot summer day, I climbed exhausted through the bumpy, mosquito-infested path to the run-down Tanzanian orphanage, anxious and unsure of what to expect. My mind was pacing with questions and scenarios: Will I be capable of helping the orphanage distribute malaria vaccines? Will handing out mosquito nets be hard? What if the children don’t like me? What if I get fired? What if I hand out the wrong vaccine? What if somebody accidently dies? A half hour later, these questions were momentarily forgotten as I was being served scrambled eggs and Peri-Peri chili sauce over fries while listening to the orphanage director, Mr. Genoshi, talk about his medical experiences in giving emergency aid to Rwandans during the Tutsi genocide. In the following weeks, I spent hundreds of hours in sweat, distributing mosquito nets and anti-malarial vaccinations to orphans and local villagers. By the end of the trip, I realized how much I enjoyed giving medical aid to less-fortunate individuals. It was the smiles on the orphans’ faces when I provided them with food, stories, and vaccination shots that made me decide to pick the medical field.…

My interest in studying Events Management started to develop in my early years of adolescence due to my interest in music, dance and other different events that bring many different people from different backgrounds and similar interests together. Since it does not interest me to be on stage, I want to be involved in the work that is in charge of the planning of the event. Another thing that made me want to take this course was the involvement in charity events and different festivals. Most of my life has evolved around my family’s dairy business. We were in business from March 1973 to October 2009, that’s 36 years 7 months to be exact. A bad economy and numerous other factors led us to decide to call it quits and exit the dairy business. I myself started working for our farm at age 8 and had to work every day. I enrolled at ICS a vocational school that taught a course majoring in PC repair. The course took 9 months to complete. And I got my diploma. A year later I tested for and received My A+ Certification. I’ve been repairing computers ever since. Mainly on a part time basis as the dairy took up most my time. I need something more reliable, like what a steady paycheck check can bring. That’s what led me here to IOT. The following is a list of my goals for the next 5 years.…
