Most of his books are adventurous like the Hatchet. It was published in 1987, and was eventually turned into a movie ("Gary Paulsen." Kids). The Hatchet is about a boy on a plane going to see his father. The pilot suffered from a heart attack while he was on the plane. He was forced to take charge of the plane, but that didn’t work very well.
Gary Paulsen received many awards. He received Newbery Medal awards for the Hatchet, Dogsong, and Winter Room ("Gary Paulsen."). Many of his other books are along the lines of outdoor adventure. Paulsen has had a few of his books made into movies ("Gary Paulsen."). M Therefore, many young adults all over the world read his books. Gary Paulsen has earned great rewards throughout his career.
