The difference between the gastric bypass and the Lap-band are that they both restrict the amount of food intake but the gastric bypass reroutes where the stomach and part of the intestines connect causing temporary malabsorption. The lap-band only restricts the amount of food intake. With any surgery or alteration to the body system there introduces the possibilities of complications and all surgeries come with risk.…
I thought that this book was a great read! One of the things that made this book so great was the point of view it was from. Since the story was told from Lauren’s point of view you knew…
I thought that this book was adventurous and exciting. The author gave a lot of detail and the story line was very interesting. I liked the plot because it was exciting and Charlotte goes through a big change in the story. The book kept me wondering what would happen next. I did not like how the story ended though because it is probably not what I would have done. I could relate to Charlotte when she wanted to help the crew and become a part of them because that is how I would have felt to. I would have felt…
I think it was powerful because Aneta was an orphan and didn't have much but then she opt her family and she had such a big heart and loved Wink so much. At first I thought that I wouldn't like this book and it toulk me forever to get through the first couple chapters. Once I got hang of it I was really into it and I couldn't wait to see what was on the next page. I think that the authors writing is very good and the setting is also good but happy to. It hasn't changed my thinking because I have always thought my dog was my best friend since I opt her up to now, and I love her more than she…
I love the authors writing style in this book. First of all its written as a teenage girls journal so as i reader i get to know everything thats going on for her. I can almost relate because i know i would be going through a lot of the same issues as her. I also like how it dosnt focuse on a big group people so its easy to keep track of everyone and everything that is going on. In some parts it was a little unbelivable like when they went to the grocery store how could everything fit into there car with four other people in the car too. Im glad she put in the part about the stores though because it was intesersting like i could imagane all the chaos and frenzey of everyone running around trying to get what they might need and not know how long they would be in this situation.…
My opinion that this book was a little sad because Kevin (also known as Freak) had a disease that made him stop growing at three feet so he had to wear metal leg braces and crutches. Also in the beginning Max was a bully because in the beginning of the story Max was called Kicker because whoever touched him Max will hurt that person by punching and kicking him/her. The book also talks a lot about friendship and trust because when Freak and Max first saw each it was only for one afternoon and that afternoon they barely talked to each other but once years have passed, some how Freak moved next to Max’s emptied neighbors house (the only reason the house was empty because the old neighbor was still in jail) So after Freak got out…
I believe I explained the characters effectively because people want to sympathize with them and also want to get to know the characters and learn more about their experiences in the story.…
Obesity is an epidemic that greatly affects over 50% of the American population. The reasons for this epidemic are numerous, from the growing trend of the super-sized meal to the intense laziness of the average American. It is this inherent laziness that leads many Americans to look for a quick fix to the problem of obesity; this has resulted in the increasing popularity of cosmetic surgeries to "cure" someone of the obesity. Gastric bypass surgery is the leading remedy for this particular problem.…
Many of the obvious consequences of obesity are quietly infiltrating our everyday life. When exercises and diets fail to effectively treat people with extreme and excessive obesity, bariatric surgeries are recommended. Two of the laparoscopic surgeries - gastric banding and gastric bypass will be compared in this essay. Analyzing in terms of surgery complexity, dietary modification and potential problems, proved that gastric banding is better than gastric bypass.…
When Thomas, Teresa, and Chuck go to the cliff to jump through the griever hole all of the grievers were in the way. The gladers had made a path and when they jumped I was so nervous that they were just going to fall and that hole wouldn’t be there any more. WHen Chuck found they last part of the code to shut off the grievers I was so happy. When they got the people that served back I was sad because there were a lot less than what I thought there was going to be. When it was time to face the creators I felt bad for all of them because they were nervous and scared. They had tried to kill Thomas by thoughing a knife at him and Chucked had jumped in front of him to save him my heart broke. I wanted to cry because Chuck was still young and I felt so bad for him that he had to die. In my opinion Chuck had died a hero and I’m still really sad that he had died. The people that had rescued them from the creators I don’t trust them at all. This section of the book was my favorite and the most intense section of the…
In the story hunger author Anne Lamott introduces herself and her struggle with food addiction and her battle with eating disorders that she suffered in the early part of her life. In this story she talks about her life how she was growing up, her personal obsession with food, her battle with alcoholism, and addiction to eating. Lamott in the short story hunger also covers her struggle for life with the eating disorder bulimia. The author throughout her story learns that her addiction and her battle with alcoholism were only symptoms of deeper lying problems, and eventually the manner in which she overcame all of that against all odds. The road was not simple but as you read the story “Hunger” and you connect with the author and her struggle then you really sees how hard the battle really was, not only did she overcome all of her disorders and addictions but she had a new lease on life, she learned to live once more.…
I greatly enjoyed this essay. I thought that her descriptive writing placed a detailed imagine in my head and I could see every scene that she described about her journey in life. I thought that her enthusiasm for embracing her life and her colored skin was inspiring. To be able to take what some may think as a disadvantage in life, and turn it into a benefit is a great way to live in the world. I also enjoyed her metaphor of the bags filled with miscellaneous contents. Everyone…
It was good, but it was also a gut wrenching story about the war in Vietnam. I liked how the book opened with the author describing the physical things they carried during the war, and how he ended the book with them carrying emotions and memories out from it. Although many characters died in multiple different ways, it seems like there were all there to serve a specific point and feeling, from regret to sorrow. I enjoyed some of Tim O’Brien’s writing styles as well, since I don’t see some of that in the books I read, from the beginning where there were no quotation marks, to later on when he kept multiple paragraphs together as one. It was definitely an interesting book to read, full of so many unspoken emotions, writing styles and choices, and leaving the reader to guess at the end of what all hadn’t been spoken…
Not at all what I expected. I loved the story, from beginning to end. I was elated then sad, then elated then sad again. Talk about an emotional rollercoaster. To be utterly poor, to unbelievably wealthy and to hell and back again, all in search of his love. This was a totally cool story. Once I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down. I loved the way the story ended, with each and every one of them, learning to live with what they have and that what little they have is enough, especially after what they had all been through. Thinking one and the other was dead only to find them alive again, and in the end, just learning to appreciate one another’s company and to “cultivate their garden”. All of their life lessons learned, really gave them some introspect as to what life really has to offer and what is truly important to them. This story was amazing. I wanted him to go back to El Dorado if he were able to find his way back. I kept…
Feelings: I had strong feelings with thomas the main character in the story. I thought that myself and Thomas were alike in many ways he was a leader basically like a captain of the team which were his friends.Throughout my book I was at the edge of my seats the author would drive me crazy with the suspense at one point in my book Thomas got captured By WICKED the bad group of people in my book and one of his best friends Brenda back at scorch. The scorch is where they would test the ``subjects`` (thomas`s friends) . WICKED thought Brenda was part of them but really Brenda was in love with Thomas they had this connection where they could talk to each other without opening their mouths.Thomas was in a lot of trouble because WICKED…
