REFLECTION/ REACTION PAPER

After watching the movie in the cinema, I decided to compare Jay Gatsby from Francisco Reteche. When I first saw Gatsby, I already noticed one similarity that I can pair with Reteche wherein they were both mysterious in the starting part of the story and we could not predict what were they thinking. There were still some similarities that I noticed between the two of them like their main problem was about a girl wherein they wanted to be with a certain girl who left them. They were both sad and broken-hearted with the respective girls that they loved hooked up with another men. In the story Zita, Reteche was living alone since his girlfriend left him, as well as in the movie, Jay Gatsby was also living alone since he left his family when he was sixteen years old to earn a living. And lastly, the reason on why Zita from the city and Daisy left Reteche and Gatsby was similar wherein Zita from the city left Reteche because he was just an ordinary man and Zita from the city wanted a rich man, so she left him and clung to a rich guy, while Daisy did not wait for Gatsby anymore because before when there where still a spark between them, Gatsby used to be a nobody, so Daisy married Tom because she felt more secured with Tom because of his wealth and stability in life. I noticed only few differences between Reteche and Gatsby wherein I can say that there were more similarities between them in terms of how the story revolves. The first difference that I noticed was that Reteche was just a poor or average schoolteacher, while Gatsby was rich because he entered in smuggles and other illegal stuffs when he was in grief. The flow of their story was also different from each other, even though the story of Zita and The Great Gatsby revolved around a girl, Zita was about a schoolteacher who wanted to be alone and away from the girl who broke his heart, while The Great Gatsby was about a man who came back to be with her again which was already married and already has a child. Based on my observation, Reteche thinks more matured than Gatsby did, because Reteche accepted the truth and tried to be far away from Zita to moved on, while Gatsby did everything just to get Daisy back into his life again, but as we all know that Daisy was already married with Tom. Another difference is in the ending part, wherein, in the story Reteche did not state if he and Zita from the city were back together, however in the movie, it was clear that Gatsby was not able to fulfill his dream to be back with Daisy and she chose to be with Tom. And lastly, Reteche was alive when the story ended, while Gatsby was shot dead for the crime that he never committed and it was the saddest part of the story. The movie was great, though at first I thought that it would be a boring one, but when it reached the middle part, it became interesting and worth watching. I have some insights about the movie wherein it is not good to be a materialistic and a gold-digger person like Daisy. She gave up her love for Gatsby and married Tom even though she did not really loved him, she just wanted Tom’s wealth. Your love for someone is not worthy to give up just to be rich in this world for money cannot buy our happiness. Moreover, one should not steal a woman’s heart if she is already married since it is bad to do such thing and they are already matured enough to think what is right or wrong on their actions. Therefore, we should think of all the consequences in every action we make so that we will have no regrets in the end.
