Gatsby Alternate Ending
THAT ONE FINE MORNING was, surprisingly, not the end of everything. It was replicated and enhanced in a way that shattered every bit of the world that existed in my imagination. It was roughly four years after Gatsby’s mansion became uninhabited when a smack across my cheeks awakened me from my monotonous stockbroker lifestyle in Minnesota. When I unconsciously covered my face in immense pain, the sheer darkness around me was adulterated with this silent sound of a steady drizzle. Stunned, I felt as if it was fire instead of raindrops that was consuming my house. Standing before me was a silent figure that could well be part of the “fire.” “You are going to New York City this morning, old sport,” said the figure. “Will you answer some of …show more content…
Gatsby Alpha. You are to help me gain redemption, for my twin brother Beta’s demise six years ago. Now come with me, old sport.” “Why New York?” There was no response other than a gesture that indicated immediate departure. Perhaps because I was tired of the static passage of time in Minnesota, or because I felt a righteous indignation about Gatsby’s death, or, I should say, Gatsby Beta’s death, I acquiesced to this adventure back to the East. But many of my questions were left unanswered: Why was Gatsby Beta’s twin brother so eager to find me? How and why did he have such a keen desire to redeem himself and his …show more content…
In fact, we have talked many times before. I was in charge of the rum businesses and the stock market trades; Beta focused on the social interactions. That’s how we amassed our wealth so quickly. We never appeared at the same time, of course. The world only knew half of me and half of Beta. But we both fell in love with Daisy. Unfortunately, I did not have time to inform Beta of the car incident that night. Then the tragedy occurred.” “I’m sorry.” I did not inquire more about Gatsby Alpha’s life. It was merely an unrelated event to me, after all.

Daisy lived on the twenty-fifth floor, the top floor of the building. The door to her apartment was ajar. Clearly she had already been expecting a visit. Gatsby Alpha and I walked straight through the door and saw Daisy lying on her gaudy couch, curling up under a thin blanket. Eager to complete my mission, I immediately cried, “I am unbelievably disappointed that you betrayed Gatsby. You deserve to taste what he had to endure!” I immediately pulled out my pistol and pointed at Daisy. Gatsby Alpha, according to our plan, pointed his own pistol toward me, attempting to rescue Daisy from the

    Great Gatsby Obituary

Mr. Gatsby preferred not to share his personal life with the people around him. He once told me that he was from the Middle West and his family was deceased. He said he served in the military during World War One as a dedicated captain. Mr. Gatsby received a medal in the Great War, which says, “Major Jay Gatsby, For Valour Extraordinary.” He told people and myself he was an Oxford man who came back to the United States to pursue an entrepreneurial business. Although Mr. Gatsby never shared his business dealings, he maintained a luxurious lifestyle and was known for his extravagant parties. Gatsby welcomed everyone to his soirées to enjoy his hospitality; that is how we met and we became close ever since. As I was reflecting on his death I thought, “Gatsby turned out all right at the end; it [was] what preyed on Gatsby, what foul dust floated in the wake of his dreams that temporarily closed out my interest in the abortive sorrows and short winded elations of men” (2).…

But Gatsby becomes a bit frantic after Daisy declares that she does love Tom, as he panics and says "I want to speak to Daisy alone. She’s all excited now —" (Fitzgerald 102). This shows how much hubris Gatsby has and how high up he holds himself, he believes Daisy will say she loves him and when she doesn't it's because she was manipulated. This belief causes Gatsby to escalate the situation and push Tom to eventually win the argument and kick him away, which causes the accident resulting in Wilson's wife's death and later Gatsby's as…

Gatsby’s behavior prior to meeting Daisy displayed the severe extent to which he was anxious and insecure. First, Gatsby allows Nick to invite Daisy over for tea, without Daisy knowing that Gatsby will be attending as well. The fact that Gatsby allows Nick to set up the get-together with Daisy, which Gatsby’s has spent many of his years preparing for, suggests that Gatsby feels as if he is not worthy enough to approach Daisy directly. Furthermore, Nick notes the decrepit condition of Gatsby merely hours before Daisy’s arrival that “He was pale, and there were dark signs of sleeplessness beneath his eyes” (Fitzgerald 84). This description helps to illustrate the distress and anxiety that Gatsby has experienced over the inevitable reunion with Daisy, which has caused him to lose sleep. In addition, minutes before Daisy arrives, Gatsby’s insecurity and anxiety explode into a final cry of refusal as he exclaims “Nobody’s coming to tea. It’s too late… I can’t wait all day” (85). This denial to believe that Daisy would show up proposes that Gatsby…

In this one moment we start to see the beginning of the end of Daisy and Gatsby relationship as Gatsby talks to Daisy to defend his name. “With every word she was drawing further and further into herself, so he gave that up, and only the dead dream fought on as the afternoon slipped away, trying to touch what was no longer tangible, struggling unhappily, undespairingly” (134). They leave the town to return back…

It is important to realize how much Gatsby sacrifices for his loved one-his ambition. An indispensable element of a fairy tale, the prince wants his princess. Gatsby’s thirst for Daisy is “the lack suffered by typical fairy tale protagonist” (Barrett 10). They are in love when Gatsby is in basic training, but separated when he serves in actual combat. After the war, in order for him to get her back, this time legitimately, he realizes he must stand on the same status as Daisy.…

He throws lots of big parties to attract Daisy’s attention. Additionally, after five years being separated from Daisy, what Gatsby worries about when he meets her is not whether she misses him but whether his mansion looks well and the first place he wants her to visit is his splendid house (2). He keeps showing off his belongings and asking Daisy to check whether she is impressed. When “he [revalues] everything in his house according to the measure of response it [draws] from her well-loved eyes” (Fitzgerald 98), it is clear that Daisy’s recognition of his achievements concerns him the most and Gatsby overestimates the importance of material passion in his relationship with Daisy. In the end of the story, when Gatsby is willing to scarify his life-work and fame to save Daisy from being a murderer, this event is argued to be an evidence of love. However, as he desires her in the same way he is in pursuit of the glory of success and Daisy is only a supreme object helping him to strengthen his achievements, the act of protecting her is merely to protect the thing he longs for in his whole…

Gatsby strode gracefully alongside Daisy whose eyes were determinedly watching her white patent leather shoes as they hit the soft, sumptuous rug in the room’s foyer and carried her along the glowing red hallway to the ornate steel cage encasing the hotel’s elevator. The flame that once seemed to flicker between them had been snuffed out and was replaced with a painful muteness. With a deft movement of his arm Mr Gatsby slid open the cage and they stepped inside. At the pull of a lever the ground lurched below their feet and they were trapped in the box hurting towards the fiery pits of hell as their clothes seemed to strangle and dampen in the heat. Daisy reached out and tentatively placed a petite, clammy hand on the shoulder of Jay’s pink suit jacket in an attempt to bring him from the torments of his mind and back once more into the heat of the lift to comfort her.…
