In the book the great gatsby Tom is the best person to look at for 21st century love based on he loved Daisy but cheated on her a lot, he does not want daisy that bad till he does not have her anymore, he was hurt when daisy cheated on him.
The fact that Tom does cheat on Daisy makes him look bad but deep down him loved her you do not see that until the end
