Gatsby vs lear

Both Jay Gatsby and King Lear exemplify what Edgar quoted because both characters started out with everything, they were both on top of the world, but as both stories continued on there true measure weathered away and both men became empty. Both men started to lose their sanity in different ways, for Lear he lost his mind after his daughters betrayed him, and Gatsby lost his sense of reasoning over the love he felt for daisy. Both men were blind to think that their power could not go away.

Both characters started out as rich men with everything at their fingertips. But as both stories go on you see them lose their power. For Lear his power went away very quickly as he visited his Daughters and at every visit his power was being diminished. Where Gatsby self imploded when his love for Daisy dictated his life. Slowly through the novel Gatsby started growing paranoid and began to fire his staff because he was afraid that someone would spread rumors about him to Daisy. In the end this became his downfall as with little to no staff there no one saw Gatsby’s killer walk into his residence. Both characters did not endured there going hence as they lost there minds

In the end Lear losses everything he loved and dies from a broken heart. Jay Gatsby was the most mysterious man in all of New York, he held parties that were outrageously fun, and he had a luxurious house with many servants, but he was willing to throw away everything for the girl he loved.
