Both characters started out as rich men with everything at their fingertips. But as both stories go on you see them lose their power. For Lear his power went away very quickly as he visited his Daughters and at every visit his power was being diminished. Where Gatsby self imploded when his love for Daisy dictated his life. Slowly through the novel Gatsby started growing paranoid and began to fire his staff because he was afraid that someone would spread rumors about him to Daisy.
