Gatsby is less sympathetic than Nora. To start off, in the novel, “The Great Gatsby,” Gatsby is a rich, strong, and handsome man, who lives in marvelous mansion in West Egg. Along with, he has a dream, which is to get Daisy’s love back. After he comes back from the World War I, he decides to erase his poor past by first changing his name. Then, he begins surrounding himself with wealth. However, his money comes from illegal business. Gatsby is a bootlegger. Added to, he throws parties every weekend in order to get Daisy’s attention. Additionally, he wants to repeat the past. Though, he knows that is not possible, which shows that he is an unrealistic person. Moreover, he pretends he is Old Money because he thinks Old Money has more value in the society than New Money. He tells Nick that his family is rich, and he is very well educated. He lies to everybody because he lacks confidence. He buys a beautiful mansion and expensive cars to one day show Daisy that he is rich and has the power to bring happiness to her life. Besides being unconfident, Gatsby is also very stubborn. After the car accident involving Gatsby, Daisy, and Myrtle, Nick tells him to leave town for his own sake. However, Gatsby thinks he can’t leave because of Daisy. He wants to stay and protect her. He wants to take all the responsibilities for Daisy.
