It was the same with slavery, now 120 years later we realize how horribly wrong we were and I hope it will be like that for homosexuals too. Sam-sex marriage is “some have said, the last major civil rights milestone yet to be surpassed in our two-century struggle to attain the goals we set for this nation at its formation” (RA 76). There are so many reasons why gay marriage should be legalized as Olson stated, one of which being child adoption. The argument that “traditional marriage furthers the state’s interest in procreation” is unreasonable because our orphanages aren't full, but we want them to be as empty as possible. Gay couples biologically can't have children on their own. However, many gay couples that want children would revert to adopting. That means that a lot more of orphans would be given loving parents, a better home, and a proper education.
As Olson states in his article “Why Same-sex Marriage is an American Value,” the United State of America was founded on the belief that everyone was created equal, endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights, such as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The right to get married is included. Therefore, to deny the right for same-sex couples to marry is denying their constitutional right to marry which is unconstitutional. What would the founding fathers think of our nation being so divided over same-sex marriage, devastating the lives of those who are simply attracted to the same sex. In order to become the true United States of America, to be a nation with no frontiers and equality for all, we must embrace same-sex marriage.

Gay marriage discussions are highly present in our society. Student writer, A.J. Chavez argues that not only should marriage occur between a man and a woman, but also the same sex. He articulates his thoughts on how if the same sex feels the same way a straight couple feels, and then it shouldn’t be a problem. However, our society uses religious views and traditional morals to restrain gay marriage. Apparently, we as a nation are indecisive on this issue today. The student writer states valid arguments and backs it up completely. In Chavez’s essay, he argues his point of view on gay civil unions.…

Gays do not choose to be gay; they don’t wake up one morning and decide that they just want to love the same sex. I am sure that I can speak for everyone when I say that no one would just choose a life of bullying, humiliation and being taunted forever. No human would want to be bullied to the point of where they want to commit suicide. Homosexuals cannot help being attracted to the same sex it is in their nature. Sometimes it can even be hereditary. “Jane Doe left her marriage of 25 years and her two children because of an intense love relationship that developed between her and another woman” (Robert M. Baird & Stuart E. Rosenbaum). Becoming gay can happen over a period of time. People often ask why any homosexual individual would want to marry. Heterosexuals didn’t choose to be straight so why would homosexuals choose to be…

The argument of procreation that many people use is completely invalid. Just because two heterosexual people enter into a state of marriage doesn’t mean that they will have kids, and there certainly isn’t anyone asking whether they plan to or not. Allowing gays and lesbians to marry will not discourage heterosexual couples from marrying and having kids. Also there are many homosexual couples who would like to have children so therefore they turn to adoption agencies which are abundant with children that need homes. And where are these children coming from? Heterosexual couples. So who is really corrupting the idea of marriage? The couples that give away their kids and 72 day marriages like Kim Kardashian’s or the couples who simply want to spend their lives…

At a time where a procedural republic is present, gay marriage is an issue that does not satisfy the ideal of liberty as self-choosing and unencumbered. However, this concern has become one of the most controversial subjects today because it violates the first amendment, which is the right of the people to peaceably assemble. How are homosexuals supposed to assemble for their cause if they are threatened with violence? Homosexuality is the real problem in the eyes of many and anything relating to this topic is immediately cast down. Because homosexuals are a minority, their rights cannot be advocated because their lifestyle is not part of the dominant culture. The government is supposed to bracket morality issues and remain objective on topics like gay marriage, but for some reason this is not happening. Administrations are able to get away with using their religious and moral backgrounds to set certain laws in place, remaining unjust. The issue of gay marriage is not homosexuality in itself but an individual 's right to choose whom they want to marry.…

Ask just about anyone they’ll all say they’re in favor of equal rights for gays. Just name the topic- should gay people have the same rights in housing, jobs, should they have equal access to government benefits or equal protection under the law? Then you get to the topic of gay marriage- that’s when all the talk of equality stops dead cold. If two people love each other, no matter what their gender, ethnic back round, or religious values are, they should be able to get married. The law doesn’t discriminate against a white and black person getting married, or a Catholic and Jewish person, so why not two gay people. Unfortunately Proposition 8 passes-which now means that gay marriage in California is not recognized. Not allowing gay people to get married is like saying they have no rights, or they don’t matter. Gays should be able to marry because it’s their constitutional rights as human beings.…

When it comes to civil rights for Gays pertaining to marriage and adoption there is a lot of major controversy, however the pro’s by far out weight the cons. History shows the beginning of the gay civil rights movement in the United States primarily began with the Stonewall riots that took place in Greenwich in 1969. Some refer to it as the Gay Revolution, this sparked a lot of controversy pertaining to whether the gay community had the right to marriage and raising families. There are two major sides; there is the pro side, which President Obama stands strongly behind, which states yes of course they should. Just because certain individuals love the same gender does not mean they should not have the same rights as a male and female in love. The opposing sides are venamently against letting these types of couples have any rights including adopting children. They claim it goes against the whole moral fabric of our country, however it mostly comes from religious beliefs and own personal discriminations. There are quite a few loop holes that States use to prevent any type of legal union between the same sexes, for example the certain types of wording in their legislations pertaining to marriage. Steve Sanders who is an appellate lawyer and an Associate Professor at the University Michigan Law School specializing in Constitutional litigation wrote; “Same-sex marriage is now legal in six states, and tens of thousands of same-sex couples have already gotten married. Yet the vast majority of other states have adopted statutes or constitutional amendments banning same-sex marriage. These mini-defenses of marriage acts not only forbid the creation of same-sex marriages; they also purport to void or deny recognition to the perfectly valid same-sex marriages of couples who migrate from states where such marriages are legal. These non-recognition laws…

There are millions of orphans and making gay adoption legal will allow us to help these kids. In a New York Time article A Child’s Best Interest it said, “A 2009 report by Arkansas Department of Human Services found 517 children awaiting adoption but only 228 adoption homes available” (www.nytimes.com). Voters had agreed that gay or lesbians shouldn’t be allowed to serve as foster parents. But same-sex couple adoption would actually help the orphans. These couples would be able to provide them a home, a family, and love. Right now, the needs for kids should be…

When you think of gays or lesbians does it really bother you? Think to yourself, what are they doing to affect your life? Most of you would most likely say nothing at all. There is not a single piece of history that determines whether or not same sex marriage is right or wrong. There is absolutely no legal, logical, or governing reason that same sex couples cannot be married and it 's extremely unconstitutional in every way to tell them they can 't. Same sex marriage should be legal for a number of reasons, a few being, it 's no one else 's business if two men or two women want to get married, not allowing them to marry makes them seem inferior, and it rids them of their civil rights. Everyone is entitled to their constitutional rights: Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.…
