I. TEACHING SITUATION
IELTS Preparation Program is an obligatory English subject for first year students of Keuka program which is one of international joint programs between Keuka College, USA and International School, Vietnam National University (VNU). It is required that students after attending the course have to reach an IELTS overall band of 6 on the purpose of further studying at university where the language of instruction is English. This intensive course endures 7 weeks in which 4 skills namely listening, reading, writing and speaking are distributed equally with the total of 120 minutes for each lesson focusing on separate skills. This course takes place when students have completed General English Program which consists of 4 levels and serves as a supply of basic knowledge for pre- university students of all majors at International School, VNU. While General English course puts emphasis on improving learners’ 4 skills in general with the aim at facilitating them to communicate effectively in daily social activities, IELTS Preparation Program focuses mainly on developing communicative competency in academic university context.
