India is the top country for malnourishment, at an appalling 214 million malnourished people. Although acute action is needed to act fast and provide relief efforts to the people of India, there is more so a chronic relief effort that needs to be implemented to provide a developmental program that creates sustainability within the country. These people need our support and education in order to help begin the process. They have pleaded for our help in the beginning steps of creating a community garden. This garden can provide nourishment to the people of this country as we implement many of them in different villages. They do not have the technology of tools or the different types of seeds that can provide fruits and vegetables. By helping them start the gardens, this can then provide the resources needed for future seasons in crop rotations.…

Unfortunately the support provided by this section was mainly on agronomic aspects of the irrigated sugarcane. The extension personnel that were responsible for the technical assistance were Agronomists, who had limited knowledge on irrigation matters. The absence of irrigation engineer for this section make not able to provide much technical assistance related to operations and maintenance of sub surface drip irrigation scheme. From appendix B, the farmer's responses showed that the only technical support related to irrgation they received was from Swaziland Sugar Association (SSA). However, the effectiveness of the technical support from SSA was very effective. The challenge was that even though the SSA has an Irrigation Engineer and an Irrigation Agronomist, looking at the number of smallholder farmers, the two are just far from enough manpower for this task. For the SSA to be effective in their mandate they would be required to increase the number of Irrigation specialists. The financial institutions also have agricultural loan supervisors who were supposed to help the farmers with technical assistance for the systems to have a high output. However, the problem again was that all the credit supervisors were agronomists or agro business specialist, so they did not have capacity to assist the farmers on irrigation technical…

In general, corn production does not entail a huge volume of water for irrigation. Usually, water from the rain will do in providing enough irrigation for corn production. Thus, most peasant households largely rely on rain for their corn fields. This is also a major reason why they engage in corn production rather than rice production since their fields do not have irrigation systems that could sustain the water needs of their crops. Since corn is not water-intensive, farmers in these areas prefer to plant corn, which they have done over…
