Gen 105 - Week 7 Assignment- Sq3R Worksheet
Wrap-up Questions: How successful was the SQ3R process in helping you grasp the concepts in the section you selected? Will you use SQ3R in the future as a way to master the content in academic readings?

In some way I used to read in the same process of SQ3R, even if it was not the same quality and knowledge of SQ3R, especially in reading and taking notes.
SQ3R will help me a lot in my reading mainly in English which takes most of my time in studying, now that I know how important to set questions and write notes in the margins for definitions not only translating, and writing my own questions to discuss them with others not only keeping them in my mind without finding the answers for them.
I liked the topic of “How do you customize your text with highlighting and notes” this topic was very important and useful for me, I used to underline the text and write small notes only with pencil, which is all in one color, and then I lose the main important ideas among all the same lines, never thought of using other colored pens so I don’t be distracted, but I used colored pens with this chapter which really made it easier for me to follow the important ideas and different notes.
Certainly I will use SQ3R in all my future readings to master my academic readings and in business work, as I found it very effective and useful to improve my reading

The main concerns I have while conducting research, is knowing if the information is accurate for one, and does it really help me in my writing. With sites like Wikipedia, you have to assume they are not the only sites of their nature. While a lot of their information is correct, it may not be accurate or properly cited or documented. Others have to be doing the same thing, like urban dictionary among others. It makes me nervous unless I am on a .org or .gov website. Knowing if the information is truly helping my case, instead of hurting me is the other concern. Things can be taken out of context very easily, and either I, or the reader could mis-understand where I was going with something.…

The three study strategies I have and will use during this course to increase my effectiveness are having a quiet place to study, reading for clarity, and taking notes while reading. I have found that studying in a quiet place helps me to concentrate better. Also, while studying in a quiet place I do not have to worry about any distraction which allows me to understand what I am reading because I am able to answer the questions I originally had while after I surveyed what I was about to read. Note taking is also a study strategy that helps me increase my effectiveness in this course because I am able to refer back to my notes before completing assignments.…

My experience with Accelerated Reader (AR) is not long, but I started doing ARs when I got to Leilehua in my freshman year. At first, it was difficult for me because I did not understand much English; therefore, when I took my first STAR test, I got a low reading level and I felt disappointed and dumb. The first time I took an AR I failed with a 60%, I was afraid that I would not meet my deadline and it would affect my grade. But somehow Leilehua’s AR system got me into reading culture. With the time I started to improve, getting a higher score, and reading level. Although it sometimes forces me to choose books I do not enjoy reading and puts pressure on me that it could affect my grade. However, AR system motivated me to read, but it is not preparing me for the future. AR should help students be prepared for the after high school life, but it is not completely doing its job. Leilehua should modify AR in order to prepare students to transition to the hallway of life and adulthood.…
