objectives of the system, to protect all inmates from victimization and unfair treatment (Sumner and Sexton 2016). In interviewing both prisoners and inmate officials, there seemed to be a lack of consensus on how and when it is appropriate to define someone by the terms of being transgender.
The findings overall concluded with inmate officials feeling like they satisfied the requirements of indifference. They felt like everyone was being treated equally because those who fitted the z-code meant they believed they would violate prison laws of no sexual intercourse (Sumner and Sexton 2016). In a consensus, transgender inmates simply want to be treated equally to a hetero-sexual male, if they cannot be treated with the requirements they need in their transitions because the z-code is used for the worst criminal offenses, people with the z-code are segregated from the general population (Sumner and Sexton 2016).
