The attitudes of the Islam and Christianity towards sexuality and the human body share both unique and similar characteristics. They have both evolved considerably in regards to their historical contexts, and are both based predominately on the teachings of their sacred texts.

In terms of marriage, sexual relations beyond the ability of reproduction are considered to be vitally important to the health and wellbeing of a marriage, with both the sacred texts, the Qur 'an and the Hadith, alluding to sexual relations being an avenue for closeness, satisfaction and compassion between a married man and woman.
The Qur 'an states, “Permitted to you on the night of the Fasts is the approach to your wives. They are your garments and you are their garments.” (2:187)1 In the Islamic tradition, “Marriage, the giving and taking of women, in both the Islamic and pre-Islamic periods, provides the true tie that binds”2, with sexual intercourse acting as an integral part of this interaction and belief, solidifying the masculine ability to use wives as barter and/or political bribes or ties.
