    Amy Goldwasser Analysis

We’re afraid, because our kids know things we don’t.” (Goldwasser, par. 7). Teenagers have the ability to decide what becomes popular through the use of social media and the internet. They are the main reason why Apple products have become so popular and common; they made movies like “High School Musical” popular. Through their use and time on social media they were able to make the movie “Juno” an Oscar winner, made MySpace worth five hundred and eighty million dollars. Goldwasser stated “Besides, we’re tired of having to ask them every time we need to find Season 2 of “Heroes,” calculate a carbon footprint or upload photos to Facebook.” (Goldwasser, par. 8). A major reason parents think that the internet is melting their kid’s brains is because they just don’t seem to know how to do certain things with the internet without having to ask for help from a teenager. Parents also believe that teenagers are consistently blogging about them. As the author said “teenagers today read and write for fun; its part of their social lives. We need to start celebrating this unprecedented surge, incorporating it as an educational tool instead of meeting it with punishing pop quizzes and suspicion.” (Goldwasser, par. 14). Adults need to be able to start trusting their kids that what they do on the internet is not…

However, despite the negative perceptions there are about the echo boomers, they are some of the most talented people out there today. This generation has helped significantly improve technology. Today, kids can talk to friends online, play video games, download music, text one another, and watch TV all at the same time. These are some things that were unimaginable ten years ago. Cell phones are one piece of technology that has greatly changed. Now someone can use their cell phone to email, go on the internet, send texts, use GPS, set an alarm, and listen to music. This is a great advancement in technology because it affects more than just youth because many adults benefit from this as well. The internet alone has evolved from dial-up,…

The Pew Research Center released an article called “Most Millennials Resist the ‘Millennial’ Label.” Within the article they say “Despite the size and influence of the millennial generation, however, most of those in this age cohort do not identify with the term ‘Millennial.’ Just 40% of adults ages 18 to 34 consider themselves part of the ‘Millennial generation,’ while another 33% -- mostly older Millennials – consider themselves part of the next older cohort, Generation X.” (Pew) They go on to explain how that the oldest group, which is the silent group has the least chance of referring to themselves with a generation label, unlike the other groups of Americans. This divides the millennial group up again into the group that refers to themselves as Millennials and ones that…

“The Tethered Generation” (Tyler 469) also known as “The Millennial Generation” consists of ages ranging from 8 to 29 years old. It is made up of over 80 billion people born in the United States between 1978 and 1999. The tethered generation is the first to use cell phones, instant messaging, email, social media websites, and many other things since early childhood. With the help of our parents, known as “helicopter parents,” we have not only remained dependent on them, but have also become entirely dependent on technology. It is really hard to imagine how our generation would function without the use of this technology. From my research, I was able to find several pros and cons to the ideas presented by Kathryn Tyler. In her text, “The Tethered Generation,” she talks about millennial connectivity, helicopter parents, and preparing for this tethered…
