Simon, a Christ-like figure in Lord of the Flies, is a significant example in proving that humans are essentially good. For example, Simon cares about the well-being of the other boys: "...he turned to the poor broken thing that sat stinking by his side. The beast was harmless and horrible; and the news must reach the others as soon as possible" (Golding 147). Simon wants the other boys to be aware of the dangers that are actually facing them on the island so the boys do not put themselves or other boys in danger over a made up entity while they are trying to survive on the island. He does not want anyone to be overexerting themselves to try to kill the fictitious beast. Simon shows generosity when he volunteers to hike across the island: "'Someone's got to go across the island and tell Piggy we'll be back after dark.' ...Simon pushed his way to Ralph's elbow. 'I'll go if you like. I don't mind, honestly'" (Golding 117). Simon possesses a helpful nature even faced with the difficult task of surviving on an island with multiple other boys. Perhaps he volunteers to save the other boys from the trouble of this long walk. Simon proves that humans are essentially good by showing generosity and care while the act of the other boys forming friendships also proves humans are good.…

Anger is developed throughout The House Of The Spirits when characters become so infuriated with one another that it clouds their judgment, incites violence, and even pushes them to seek revenge. “Allende weaves violence and anger throughout The House of the Spirits in a manner that makes sure to highlight its senselessness while fully acknowledging its inevitability.” says Tania Asnes. Anger is defined as a normal emotion with a wide range of intensity, from mild irritation and frustration, to rage. It is a reaction to a perceived threat to ourselves, our loved ones, our property, our self-image, or some part of our identity. According to the Public Broadcasting…

While Hassan only wants to be loyal to Amir. Throughout the novel The Kite Runner, Hosseini proves this claim multiple times. As he states “Under the same roof, we spoke our first words… mine was Baba. His was Amir. My name,” (Hosseini 11), the reader can see the complex relationship between Hassan and Amir. The word “Baba” represents how Amir only cares for his father and tries his hardest to make him proud, while the word “Amir” represents how Hassan is loyal to Amir even when he knows that Amir does not feel the same way. This intricate relationship is also shown when Hosseini describes “Would I ever lie to you, Amir agha?’... ‘I don’t know. Would you?’...’I’d sooner eat dirt,” (Hosseini 54). The scene describes how Amir feels like trusting Hassan’s faith to see how far Hassan would go to protect him. Hassan replies by saying he would eat dirt before lying to Amir, showing the extent of his love. Amir feels slightly guilty for playing Hassan, but it gave him an example of how far the hazara would go for him. In the beginning of the book Hassan would do anything for Amir, and he proves this multiple times, but Amir does not feel the same way about Hassan, and that is their…

When it is good, anger is a passion for justice, motivated by love for others. Anger turns vicious, however, when it fights for its own selfish cause, not for justice, and when it fights dirty (DeYoung, 2009, pg. 121-122). When anger is used as a motivation to help those who are hurting or have been wronged the anger response it out of love, not for oneself, but for others. When anger is used for selfish reasons to hurt others love is no longer in the equation. Ecclesiastes 7:9 states, “Do not hasten in your spirit to be angry, for anger rests in the bosom of…

“Sweet Charity,” directed by Miriam Mills, had its first showing. “Sweet Charity” is a play that is conceived, staged, and choreographed by Bob Fosse. The play is about a woman named Charity who works as a hostess at a dance hall called The Fandango Ballroom. Charity is first seen as she is pushed into a lake by her boyfriend. She talks to her friends, Helene and Nickie, at her work about her boy troubles. We see Charity next meet a famous actor, Vittorio Vidal, who after getting into a fight with his girlfriend takes Charity out to dinner and dancing and then later back to his apartment after she faints. She tells her friends about she had been with Vittorio the night before which prompts the girls to have a discussion about wanting to do more with their lives. Charity then attends (or tries to) a seminar at the local YMCA where she meets her love interest, Oscar. We see them as good for one another until at the end of the play where she ends up in the lake again, but then she is okay with wanting to still make a better life for herself. Through all of this the playwright’s point is to show that no matter what your situation in life is, if you have a good outlook on life you can make a better life for yourself, and that you do not always need to rely on a man to make you happy.…

“Anger is a basic human emotion that is experienced by all people” (Mills, 2005). It is a natural response that is triggered when someone feels hurt or mistreated. The levels of anger that a person feels may not always be identical and there are varying degrees of responses that someone can express when they are experiencing this sentiment. How often a person gets angry, how intensely they feel this emotion, and how long it lasts varies for every individual. This results in a range of intensity of the anger that they express. How a person decides to handle this emotional signal can be a decisive factor as to any consequential effects…
