By developing and making genetically engineered plants that can resist this harmful chemical, more plants will be able to grow and be produced, and more food and other essentials can be grown. This is a benefit to both humans and animals, because the chemical of herbicide is dangerous to them too. If an animal were to eat a plant that contains herbicide, the animal would get very sick, and possibly even die. It has been known that animals have been killed, due to the exposure of herbicide. Another advantage to this sort of genetic engineering, is that it stops plants around the area being sprayed from being contaminated, caused by the spray drifting with the wind. Another way would be the development of pest resistant crops. What that means is that plants are being created so pests and bugs can’t eat through the crop, and contaminate them. This way isn’t 100% successful, because some of the bugs become immune after a certain period of time, but this method seems to still do its job when needed. However, this method seems to cost the farmers themselves a lot of money for the materials, and a
lot of the farmers can’t provide for themselves and their families as well as they would without paying for the materials.
