Before I completed the geogram, I started to think about the relationships I have within my family, and how they helped shape the person I am. As well as, how important family dynamics are when dealing with clients, and their families. Also, I thought about how using the dynamics of a family, can help a counselor shape the sessions, and how to help all the clients, and their families. Through my own family dynamics, I will demonstrate how family dynamics shape family relationships, and how that plays a role in dealing with the clients.
Key Members of the family:
For as long as I can remember, my Meme and Pepe, have really shaped the family, and family values. For example, my Meme has always given advice to the grand-children, and been there whenever one of us needed her. In addition, my Pepe, through the years he struggled with addiction, and making mistakes, has given me good insight into being thankful for the little things in life, and taking things as they come. I have been taught so much about our French-Canadian heritage, and how important it is to hold on to it. I can remember my Meme and Pepe, talking to me in French, and making sure I remember the struggle my ancestors endured because of our French last name, and French heritage. I feel that this will help me as a counselor, because I am proud of where I come from, and also I know that people struggle. In addition, this has allowed me to be more open to different cultures, and learning about how that can affect one's approach to treatment for mental illness. I feel that if a family has strong ties to their heritage, then that can be a stepping stone in the right direction, and can help the families come closer together in
