George And Lennie Friendship Analysis
The Friendship of George and Lennie
How far would you go to help your best friend? Would you stick with them till the very end? George and Lennie have been through many troubled times together throughout their lives and no matter what obstacles they face, George and Lennie will always have each others back. From their time traveling together as migrant workers, to their time at the farm they will stand by each other until the bitter end. We don’t learn much about George and Lennie’s past until we hear about it from George’s conversation with Slim in Chapter 3. In the conversation we learn that George wasn’t a very good friend to Lennie. George even states that “Used to play jokes on ‘Im ‘cause he was too dumb to take care of himself” (Steinbeck 40). Which led up to lennie’s the mercy killing. If i hadn’t been for george curley would have done some bad things to Lennie like lock him up in a cage for the rest of his life or as curley says I’m gonna shoot the guts outta that bastard myself”(98). If we consider Lennie’s size it will take more than one shot to take him down which would cause agonizing pain, but rather than have Lennie get mercilessly killed george decides to make Lennie's death peaceful. George does this by reminding Lennie of their shared dream of owning the farm and shooting the back of the head making lennie's death quick and painless.
In conclusion George and Lennie will always look after each other no matter what the situation is. Even though George and Lennie had some trouble in the past they turned it around for the better. George will always try to make the best decisions for Lennie and Lennie will always try to please George in anyway he can, that is what makes this friendship so special. George and Lennie will always have a very strong

The relationship of George and Lennie is that of brotherhood. While George essays to protect Lennie as an older brother would, he does, in fact, fail at times as would a sibling who assumes such a role. While Lennie does fear George somewhat, his fear resembles that of a younger sibling for an older one, rather than a parent. For,his perception is clearly that they are friends, and, thus, equals. When he asks George to tell him "how it is with us," and George describes how they have "somebody to talk to that gives a damn about us," Lennie breaks in describing their reciprocal relationship,…

Some people might think that George is not a true friend to Lennie. They might think this because George kills Lennie. George could have run away with Lennie instead of killing him, or he could have let Lennie run away on his own. He killed Lennie because it was the best option he had. The mob could have found Lennie, and Lennie would just mess up again. Also he killed him peacefully, which is better than any other form of death and a sign of compassion. If George didn’t kill Lennie Curley’s mob would have killed him in a more painful way, which George would not…

Throughout the novel, Lennie already kills several creatures such as mice, puppies, and eventually a human being like Curley’s wife. When Lennie uses his strength to kill other people, he does not even notice what he is doing. Lennie cannot restrain himself when Steinbeck states that, “She struggled violently under his hands. Her feet battered on the hay and she writhed to be free; and from under Lennie’s hand came a muffled screaming… He shook her then with anger. ‘Don’t you go yelling,’ he said, and he shook her; and her body flopped like a fish. And then she was still, for Lennie had broken her neck.”(91) The quote explains that Lennie does not know how strong he is because he is child-like. He cannot control his strength very well and does not even know what problems he might cause by using his strength. In addition, Lennie is not rational; he always does something with emotional like shaking Curley’s wife with his anger until she dies. Fortunately, George kills Lennie. Therefore, the workers on the ranch do not have to concern about risking their lives to work with this uncontrolled guy. Killing Lennie is right because no one gets injured and workers live safely. However, some people argue that George is wrong to kill Lennie because men cannot take other men’s lives easily and Lennie is not willing to kill Curley’s wife, he’s unconscious of doing it until she’s already dead. Nevertheless, the point is not important because Lennie has mental challenges and he does not mean to kill Curley’s wife. All the workers on the ranch are also lonely, so they do not want to help Lennie as well since Lennie is a new guy on the…
