President Bush was also attended flight school and became a pilot in the Texas Air National Guard from 1968 till 1973, showing his leadership skills in the service of his country. After completing his services President Bush used his leadership qualities to start his own oil and gas company. He struggled with the hard times of the oil business and then decided to sell the remaining stocks in 1990. After retiring from oil President Bush then helped with his father's presidential campaign. He worked as an advisor and speechwriter, letting his skills show. Soon after his father had won the presidential race President Bush looked towards baseball. With several investors he purchased the Texas Rangers, and soon after he became general manager. George W. Bush was now a leader of several people; he became very well liked.
President Bush's political career started in 1978 when he campaigned for U.S.
Congress. Although he wasn't successful in the general election he did defeat several opponents in the primary ballots. These steps and small successes showed much political potential in George W. Bush. In 1994 President Bush decided to run for another position, Governor of the state of Texas. He won the election becoming the 46th governor of Texas. The then Governor Bush was very well liked throughout the state of Texas. He gained great popularity and the state continued to grow in its prosperity. He was very strict with anti-crime and anti-drug measures. He greatly supported capital punishment. To further please the residents of Texas George W. Bush instituted a large tax-cut. To benefit the working class and get more respect from the more predominant class he instituted welfare laws that required beneficiaries to work. Realizing that the future lay within the hands of the children of the United States he passed many bills promoting larger spending for public schools. Using his leadership skills George W. Bush saw a rapid growing population of Hispanic speaking citizens. To accommodate for this change he approved many bilingual programs that won the hearts of many of the Hispanic population. In his second term as governor George W. Bush declared that he was going to be running for President of the United States. Using his popularity he campaigned in several different states against the then Vice-President Al Gore. George W. Bush narrowly won the election in 2000 even though he did not acquire the majority of the popular
vote.
President Bush believes that roughly one-quarter of the surplus in taxes should be returned to the people who earned it through broad tax cuts, if it was not Washington will spend it. His plan will promote economic growth and increase access to the middle class by cutting high marginal rates. It will also double the child credit, eliminate the death tax, reduce the marriage penalty, and expand Education Savings Accounts and charitable deductions. The largest percentage cuts will go to the lowest income earners. As a result, 6 million families will no longer pay federal income tax. George W. Bush used his leadership skills to best find what would make the most citizens happy.
George W. Bush believes that there should be no reduction in benefits for retirees or near retirees. He calls for dedicating all Social Security money to Social Security. He opposes any tax increase for Social Security Supports making personal retirement accounts part of social security reform and opposes government investment in private stocks or bonds.
George W. Bush wants to strengthen Medicare by providing more choice and more private sector alternatives for the elderly. He also supports offering prescription drug benefit to Medicare recipients through more options and greater choice of plans, as well as supports medical savings accounts as a health insurance option for all Americans. He supports giving patients in federally governed health care plans protections similar to those already enacted in Texas.
George W. Bush supports requiring instant background checks at gun shows by allowing gun show promoters to access the instant check system on behalf of vendors. He also supports the current ban on automatic weapons as well as voluntary safety locks. He supports automatic detention for kids who commit crimes with guns and encourages stronger enforcement of existing gun laws. He vows to provide more funding for aggressive gun law enforcement programs such as Project Exile in Richmond, Virginia.
George W. Bush is Pro life with exceptions for rape, incest and life of the mother. He set the goal that all children should be welcomed in life and protected by law. He also supports restrictions such as parental notification, believes that there should be no use of taxpayer funds for abortion and would propose a ban on partial birth abortion.
George W. Bush is faced with many problems in his presidency. After 9/11 many people have began to strongly support him in his ways of handling the tragic day. The people who do not support him do not believe he handled the problems in a concise matter. Many oppose the war with Iraq and think that President Bush is going beyond his leadership roles as a president. I personally believe that he is within his boundaries; he is doing the best to protect him country from future attacks and to punish those who attacked the United States. President Bush is also faced with a declining economy and slow times. He is using his leadership skills to make the best out of a bad situation even though there is not much he can do about it.
President Bush was brought up to be a great leader and learned many skills at a very young age. He has been involved in several different activities and businesses. He uses his skills to the best of his ability. President Bush has the experience that this country needs at this time. He handled the tragedy of 9/11 very well and kept the country from falling apart. He has been through many different experiences and failures. He developed into the leader that he is. He did not just acquire it through marriage or money.
