Geothermal vs Coal Energy
Geothermal energy vs coal powered energy, what say you? Geothermal energy is a renewable source of energy generated and stored in the Earth. Coal powered energy is a source of energy produced from the natural resources of the Earth. Geothermal energy and coal powered both have many uses especially in generating electricity. In this field, they are similar as electrical energy is generated in a similar concept. Heat from the Earth’s crust and heat produced during the burning of coals are both used to boil water which converts water into the form of steam to turn the turbine and then generate a large amount of electricity.
In my opinion, geothermal energy is a much better source of energy as compared to coal powered energy. Both sources of energy have their own advantages and disadvantages. Although the cost of production of energy from both sources are relatively high due to the building of machines, geothermal energy is undoubtedly a better source of energy compared to coal. Coal powered energy has more disadvantages and negative side effects as compared to geothermal energy.
Firstly, the extraction and burning of coal will damage and pollute the environment. Extracting coal from deep within the Earth’s surface will harm the various organisms living on the surface. Building a geothermal power plant however will not cause as much damage as extracting coal because the area would be too hot to support life due to thermal energy of the Earth. During the burning of coals, harmful gases are released to the atmosphere. Examples of these pollutants and impurities are smoke, carbon monoxide, sulphur and others. Geothermal energy is an environmental friendly source of energy and will not release much pollutant. This can reduce greenhouse effect from occurring. Besides that, geothermal energy is a very reliable and sustainable source of energy. It can be continuously supplied from the Earth’s core and will not deplete. Coal however will one day be depleted if its usage is not controlled. This is because the process of conversion of dead biological materials to the form of energy in coal takes a period of thousands of years. By using geothermal sources of energy, this will not endanger the depletion of various other sources of energy which will be used by future generations. Thus, geothermal energy is known as a renewable source of energy while coal is a non-renewable source of energy. In conclusion, geothermal energy is a better energy source compared to coal powered energy. Not only is it cost productive, it does not harm the environment much and will provide a continuous supply of energy. Geothermal energy should be the main source of energy to humans as well as other renewable sources like solar energy, wind energy, wave power, biomass and hydroelectricity to replace fossil fuels and other non-renewable sources of energy. It’s should be used to great advantage to provide optimum benefit to improve human life.

In “The Island of the Wind” the author Elizabeth Kolbert states that the finding of new creative solutions to reduce excess carbon discharges, and the building of reusable energy models have been found as new answers to climate change and fuel derived from prehistoric organisms. In this article it discusses how power is one of the basic and essential needs of our planet. It is the basis of mostly everything from the function of our homes to automobiles; therefore, to reduce the carbon footprint a group of individuals came together and created a new innovative solution involving geothermal power. In the early 2000’s results started showing that hydrocarbon deposit use had been reduced to half the amount which was once used. Years later, the importation of electromagnetisms was no longer a must because, the land was instead transporting it to other places, and the amount of production which was being done used from reusable material came out with the outcome of producing more energy than it was using. The invention of machines with rotors played a huge role in this project. It generated anywhere from the middle of twenty million to eighty million each year. With the total of these numbers, there was enough demand in meeting all of the lands supply of electromagnetism, along with supplying the entire population. In addition to these energy machines, there was also teleheating. This system was being used for distributing space heating and aquatic heating to generated locations such as residential and commercial living. However, in order for telaheating to properply run one main source must be present. In this case that would biological material from living, or recently living organisms. Therefore, this process provides higher efficiencies and cuts more than twenty hundrend tons of carbonic acid yearly. On the other hand, in the article “Wind Power Puffery” written by H. Sterling Burnett, the author argues that geothermal power is often overly praised with the results it…

Geothermal energy production works by the radioactive decay f several types of rocks containing radioactive substances (such as uranium) releasing heat energy. In the volcanic areas in Iceland, the rocks heat the water so that it then rises to the surface (naturally) as hot water and steam. The steam can then be used to drive turbines and electricity generators, thus creating the energy used to heat homes & greenhouses, and other reasons such as fish farming and other electricity in general.…

Coal energy makes up almost half of our energy, nuclear only produces 20%. Coal is a fossil fuel formed from plants that were buried millions of years ago which formed due to high temperatures and pressure underground. Burning coal releases energy, leading to steam which can power a turbine for energy just as nuclear energy. Although coal energy is not controlled such as nuclear energy can be controlled. Coal energy requires anticipation, in this case millions of years of anticipation. Coal, due to the abundance isn't expensive and nuclear energy is very expensive, to be specific 10 billion dollars expensive. Coal produces harm and pollution to the environment yet create a great amount of our energy and nuclear energy does risk contaminating toxic…

Coal mining has been around for decades since the 1800s and coal has been powering our lights even till today. The documentary called, "Burning the future: Coal in America" presented a lot of vital information about how the coal industries work and how coal helps the nation stay lit. Countries that build the world 's biggest coal plants are the United States, China and India. The states that practice coal mining are Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia. Coal power plants emissions contain many elements and compounds including sulfur dioxide, nitrous oxide and other elements including one of the largest sources which are carbon dioxide. Burning the future discusses the many factors that cause devastating outcomes. Mountain top removal and strip…

The initial construction cost of nuclear power plants is large. On top of this, when the power plants first have been built, people are left with the cost to enrich and process the nuclear fuel which also costs a lot of money. How much? Apply concrete details from your research (and cite it). Just think of how nuclear is wasteful too conversational 8 not only that but the people who work there at the plant. Nuclear energy is very costly. Generation electricity in nuclear reactors is cheaper than electricity generating from oil, gas, coal and not to talk of the renewable energy source 1 cite. Energy is an important factor in todays society, it is neccesary to power business, manufacturing and the transportation of goods and services all around the world. Solar powered energy is energy from the sun. This energy can be conerted into different energy like heat and electricity. Heat can be used to heat water or heat spaces, for example heating for houses, buildings or even swimming pools. Solar energy can be converted in two ways, by Photovoltaic or “solar cells” which change sunlight directly into electricity or by concentrating solar power plants which generate electricity by using heat from solar thermal collectors. Coal powered energy has played an important role in the advancement of civilization and will continue to be a major fuel source for at least the next quarter century. It is used primarly to produce electricty and heat through a dirty process which involves mining and combustion of the fuel. The two most common types of coal mining used today are surface mining and underground mining. In the long run, solar energy has greater potential than coal powered energy.…
