You can name all the presidents right? All the men who have governed our country, the ones who make sure everything is smooth sailing? Can you do that? I mean we’ve only had 44 presidents so far and 55 presidential elections. That’s not too many, this should be a piece of cake. You know Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, and George Washington. We all knows those guys. What about Gerald Ford? The 38th president of the United States of America. Do you know who he is? Does the name seem to ring a bell? You have to know who he is, everyone knows this guy. It was only about 38 years ago he was president. He majored in economics and political science. He was a member of Michagamua, a senior men's honor society and Sphinx a junior men's honor society. He was a part of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity, Interfraternity Council, and Student Council. He continued to play football and played center and linebacker on the colleges football team. He started as center and was later named team MVP in his senior year. He excelled on the field and was a solid student in the classroom. Leslie’s talents were so well known that he got offered two contracts from both the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers. He chose instead to take a position as an assistant varsity football coach and a boxing coach at Yale University in hopes to attend law school there. He was initially denied admission into the law school due to his full-time responsibilities as a coach but was later admitted in the spring of 1938. That same month his wife Betty was diagnosed with breast cancer. His early presidency was series of downfalls, an ailing economy, two assassination attempts, a defeat in the Vietnam War, rocky foreign relations and an almost bankrupt New York City. He followed Nixon’s footsteps with China and was the first U.S president to visit Japan, but is often remembered as clumsy. He was defeated in re-election by republican Ronald Reagan during his campaign in 1976. After presidency he continued to speak out on important political issues. Ford spoke at many colleges and universities. The Gerald R. Ford Library in Ann Harbor, Michigan and the Gerald R. Ford Museum Grand Rapids, Michigan were dedicated in 1981. He received numerous awards and honors and was the recipient of many honorary Doctor of Law degrees from colleges and universities. Gerald Ford died December 26, 2006 on a Tuesday at 6:45pm. He is the oldest president to live to date. There was not really a cause of death but it was known that he had been in and out of the hospital in January of the same year. He had recently been in Eisenhower Medical Center in October for medical test and was released 5 days

    At age 69 he was the oldest president. One of Reagan’s biggest accomplishments was to help bring an end to the Cold War and stop any further expansion of Communism which Reagan despised. Reagan also fought on the issue concerning school prayer. Within 69 days of his presidency an assassination attempt was made on his life by crazy gunman John Hinckley Jr. Four people were injured in this attack including Reagan. But none of the four men died except for Reagan’s press secretary James Brady, who was paralyzed from the attack and later died of causes from the attack years later. In 1984, Reagan defeated Democrat Walter Mondale and was reelected for a second term. Reagan won a record setting 525 electoral votes after the election.
