From chapter one towards three there are numerous “templates” Graff uses to express his ideas on how to better a writers credibility towards claims, arguments, research, or practically anything a writer would need to pull information from an outside source. Basically, the one template he wants known the most is the, “’they say _____ ; I say _____’ formula” (Graff 3). Although this template is the sole example Gerald would like his readers to take away from his book, he provides plenty of other examples towards how tointroduce information, how to summarize, how to argue with or without a rebuttal, how to quote someone properly, how to identify the speaker in the writing, how to put a naysayer to rest, and even how to make people care about what the writer is trying to convey.From my readings throughout these chapters the templates are what stood out to me. He doesn’t just give one side of his examples but attacks all sides of possible questions that could pop up after quoting someone. It’s easy for me to tell that Graff is really trying to eliminate plagiarism while giving his readers helpful insight on how to not only use the right information for what they want, but to give themselves more credibility and intellectual writing. Most of the templates Graff provides I would not use personally because they do not fit my writing style, however; I did find most of his examples to be appealing and helpful to at least start a rough draft towards pulling quotes from outsides sources and then edit the
