awards. I was captain of the baseball team in my junior and senior year and was…
My chapter of Alpha Phi Omega is Alpha Beta Zeta, located at Radford University. Each member is required to get 35 community service hours each semester. Service projects occur around the New River Valley and help a variety of community organizations. Because Alpha Phi Omega has a partnership with the Boy Scouts of America, we host many projects that allow us to help them facilitate big events. Projects I have worked on include: cleaning a local daycare center, performing trail maintenance along a portion of the Appalachian Trail, collecting food for Meals on Wheels, raising money for different causes, running youth programs for Boy Scouts and 4-H events, cleaning our Adopt-A-Spot, beautifying local parks, and many other programs. Over the…
The dedication I have shown to each of these aspects of my life is a reflection of my good character. My desire to succeed both in and out of the classroom has driven me to earn high grades, become a leader and give back to my community. In the past I have received constructive criticism for mostly engaging in activities that relate to my involvement with track & field. I believe my community service is misunderstood. It has been my choice to participate in the community service activities listed in my application. I chose to become a youth coach for the Little Feet Running Program and volunteer for local races and modified track & field meets because I feel I have more to offer to my community when participating in activities I can easily relate to. My passion for track and field has allowed me to establish strong relationships with…
This ranges from volunteering at open houses at the high school I attend, book sales, and Wic Centers. Volunteering at Wic Centers have been one of the places that I have been most involved in. During the summer, when I am not in any medical programs I usually volunteer there from 8:00 A. M up to 5:00 P.M. I help by reading and playing with children between ages 0-7 or helping distributes free lunches during the summer or helping clean the tables and chairs of the place where they eat during the summer. Overall, I have made more than 200 hours of community service learning hours over the last two summers and a total of more than 300 community service hours in the last three years of high school.…
I moved back to Canada at Grade 10 and joined the Richmond Chuckers Gold AA team. Although we were not the best team, we had a solid, all round roster. I was playing right field and batting bottom of the order. I contributed to the title our team won by my great defence and my occasional hit. The trophy was important for me because it is the only championship I won. Although I am not anywhere close to being a MLB player, my love for baseball eventually lead to the economics of baseball. That is one of the reason why I am applying to Beedie School of…
I come from a business and finance background. For the over seven years I have been in the labor market, I have worked on different areas of businesses including: customer service, sales, supply chain management, accounting, finance and recruiting. Currently, I lead a family business as General Manager. But the experience I want to focus on is the “off-the-clock” one: volunteering.…
The AVID program has helped me in many ways, but the thing it helped me the most with was actually understanding the importance of going to college and it has taught me how to get there. The process of going to college can be very confusing especially for a first generation college student like me. AVID has been extremely helpful with answering all my questions I have about college. It has also kept me on track with the things I need to need get done during my senior year in order to be able to attend college; for example, college application deadlines, scholarship deadlines, and taking tests (placement, SAT ACT).…
Furthermore, I am involved with many clubs at my high school as stated on my application I give back to the community in several of these clubs by doing various activities throughout the year. I have also been an active member of my church, St. Jerome Catholic Church. I have been an altar server since the third grade and a Eucharistic Minister since the ninth grade. I actively participate in my church’s Vacation Bible School; I have been a group leader for various grades while also being the crafts’ assistant for numerous years.…
For the past 10 years, I have been a member of the Busy Workers 4-H club along with holding the offices of Treasurer, Secretary, and currently President. Through 4-H I have been involved in a multitude of community activities. Every year my club and I hold an annual Bingo Night with the developmental disabilities home in our community; playing games and giving out prizes. Additionally every Christmas we sing Christmas Carols to the nursing home and then host a Christmas party for the residents. Furthermore, on my own, I have assisted with the Public Library’s Summer Food Program. During this program, I served lunch to the children, and then read books to them. This past summer I aided in tearing down an old community baseball field fence and…
To me community service means to help out the community by performing jobs and services without receiving payment. The community service that I performed was at the Habitat for Humanity. All I really did during this time was restock the store, help load and unload furniture, clean the store, rearrange the furniture in the store, and help customers load and unload furniture. I chose this organization because it was the closest place I could find and I really needed all of my community service hours at the time.…
AVID has helped me big time and I don’t where I would be without it.Overall, Avid has changed me in a good way. AVID, has prepared me for the future and it is a big importance in my life. It helped me be responsible and showed me my own strengths and weaknesses. I’ll be lost without AVID and I may be the complete opposite person that I am today.…
Volunteering for elderly allowed me to care for people of old age. I have completed 30 hours of social action, carrying out various tasks, such as; fundraising and bag packing for charity. It also included activities involving the nature life; walking, canoeing, rope climbing…
While at Annville Cleona High School, I participated in many clubs and activities both in and out of school. I busied myself outside of school through my job and by completing many hours of community service. For my job, I work at a local movie theater as a crew member and have recently been awarded as employee of the month for August. This position has helped me step out of the realm of Annville by making friends with employees from out of town and also improve my communication and develop customer service skills. As for my service hours, I have volunteered at numerous locations including but not limited to the Ronald McDonald House, Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, A Tail to Tell Puppy Mill Rescue, and YMCA’s Camp Shand. During my time at these places, I was able to interact and brighten the days of sickly children, act as a…
I assist the elderly in various programs such as arts and crafts and bingo, as well as, provide adminstrative support at the volunteer office. I have already acquired around 200 volunteer hours, however, I plan on continuing to volunteer at a variety of places in the future to continue to contribute and give back to my community.…
Doing volunteer work is a great way to get involved within a community. The Houston Food Bank is a place that I had been in before. In my experience I have found that I really like to volunteer and I plan on going back in the near future. Volunteering has helped me in exploring my interests and abilities. It is through volunteer opportunities that I have learned how to communicate with others and acquire skills that can transfer into the workplace. When trying to find a job, employers look for volunteer experience because that just shows them that you take time out of your life to help others.…
