It was still dark out and Pickels came running into the cabin. He was yelling and screaming about a shooting at the pub last night.
“Shooting! SHOOTING! SHOOTING!” Pickels yelled and screamed
“Pickels shut it.”
“But Shooting at the pub last night.” Yelling as he ran out.
Everyone ran out the door following but not me. I stumbled out of bed and got dressed. As I began to walk to the door I noticed Blacky was still sleeping. I hazily stumbled over to his bunk. “Get up Blacky.”
“Ah, Piss off,” he mumbled pulling the sheet over his head. Did he think I was lying just to get him out of bed or something?
“Get up. There’s been a shooting.”
“Bull.”
“Fair dinkum. Down at the Pub.”
“Pull the other one.”
“Would I make something like this up mate?”

I could see Arks and the others just over to the left of the crowd. I decided to head over to them slowly pushing through the crowd.
“What happened Mr. Robertson?”
“Don't know. I can’t really see what’s happening,” said Arks.
“Oh well let me know when something happens, K.”
“Yeah will do.”
“I heard people saying something to do with some Boongs,” Pickels replied.
I turned back to find Blacky, but he was not in sight.
“Hey, Dazza. You see Blacky?”
“Nah no idea.”
“Look, they’re bringing one out now,” Arks shouted.
I could only faintly see two officers were carrying a stretcher out the Pubs doors. On it was a body covered by a white sheet. Blacky started to push the front so he could see more. I noticed Blacky at the front talking to the police. Maybe he knew what happened.
“Blacky!” I shouted. But he mustn’t have heard me, he was too focused on the shooting. “Oi you, shut up about Blacky.”
“Yeh piss off mate.”
I decided to push through the crowd to get to Blacky. That way I could ask him what happened.
“You right.”
“Hey!”
“Can’t ya just wait?”
People in the crowd didn’t seem happy about me but I didn’t care. I just wanted to get to Blacky.
