Final Fantasy is a media franchise created by Hironobu Sakaguchi. It centers on a series of fantasy and science fantasy role-playing video games (RPGs), but includes motion pictures, anime, printed media, and other merchandise. The first game in the series, published in 1987, was conceived by Sakaguchi as his last-ditch effort in the game industry; the title was a success and spawned sequels. The video game series has since branched into other genres. Although most Final Fantasy installments are supposedly independent stories with different settings and main characters, they feature identical elements that define the franchise. Plots center on a group of heroes battling a great evil while exploring the characters' internal struggles and relationships. The series has been commercially and critically successful; it is Square Enix's best selling video game franchise, with more than 100 million units sold, and one of the best-selling video game franchises. It was awarded a star on the Walk of Game in 2006, and holds seven Guinness World Records in the Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition 2008. It has also introduced many features now common in role-playing video games and has been credited with helping to popularize console-based RPGs in markets outside Japan. (Full article...)

Zoës Kitchen began in 1995 as a family-run restaurant in Homewood, Alabama. The company's owner, president & CEO, John Cassismus had turned his attention from his own business ventures to the family business, with desires to build a world-class company. Mostly frequented by mothers with small children and white-collar employees in the area, the restaurant catered to those consumers with a desire for healthy foods at comparatively lower prices. As of December 2005 there were 16 locations in five different states. The brand was strong and synonymous with freshness, home-style goodness and family recipes. The menu boasted healthy selections, mostly with a Greek influence, (i.e. chicken pitas & roll-ups, salads & dinner plates) which consumers could also purchase in larger quantities for take-home consumption.…

The game console industry is unpredictable, as the market leader changes as frequently as new games being released. Currently, the most prominent console manufacturers in the industry are Sony (PlayStation), Microsoft (Xbox), and Nintendo (Wii). While Sony and Microsoft focus on powerful machines and games targeted at older teens and young adults, Nintendo’s family friendly, less graphically polished consoles target an entirely different market, and is not applicable to the Sony/Microsoft battle.…

As iconic as Bob Marley’s music remains, his legend is more than just good sound. Marley’s songs are rooted to the idea that music is symbolic enough to spark a change within others. Marley’s significance transcends from protesting against the system by fighting and writing about it all while inspiring generations of youth to do the same. Ainouche said that "Perhaps roots reggae is currently less palpable, but it remains a potent form of dialogue that challenges the hegemony of supremacy and racism" (par 23). This statement confirms that original meaning of reggae has disappeared as time went on. Instead, the genres that bred from reggae carry on the symbolic meaning that reggae remains a voice of protest and rebellion.…

Modern Japanese culture is the result of over one thousand years of development and evolution. With such a strong and rooted background, Japanese traditions and values have remained imbued in Japanese society despite rapid modernization and westernization during the last century. As the world has become smaller and entertainment has gone from being confined to its country of origin to being available across the globe, Japan continues to display its unique identity by producing distinct experiences within the same mediums as Western countries. From movies and books to music and video games, entertainment developed in Japan is different than that of their Western counterparts. To illustrate this point I have chosen to focus solely on the video game industry. Due to the lack of scholarly research on this subject, I will primarily draw my personal knowledge and quotes from respected game designers in this paper.…
