Abstract:
This paper encloses the ethical stand point of a situation based on a fictional story,
Gilbane Gold. In this paper we will discuss intuition along with some tests and the philosophies of Immanuel Kant, Aristotle and John Stuart Mill to analyze the circumstances that lead to the decision made by the character David Jackson. The story Gilbane Gold is very apt to address the ethical and legal values of the situation based on its effects in the future. This case was originally prepared by the National Institute for Engineering Ethics of the National Society of Professional
Engineers. It is a fictional but highly plausible case, suggested by actual situations. Students will find it easy to identify with the junior environmental engineer, David Jackson, who is caught between his desire to be a good employee and his sense of obligation as an engineer to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public (Paragraph 1, Gilbane Gold TAMU)
