Gilbert Grape Family

Family are typically consisted of a mother, father, and their children typically living in one roof this is typically known as a nuclear family yet, is it still considered a family when one parents is present instead of two parents. Time has proven to show that a family no longer has to be the traditional two parents house hold, that a family is consistent of people that each care of each other such as friends. In cases such as Gilbert Grape family he lives in a one parent household in which the children have taken upon themselves to replace the role they traditionally did not have growing up. How can anyone become be a parent if they had not had a good example of parent for them around. Within the movie we see the main characters struggles
balancing trying to be a parent as well as teenager it is within these struggles he uses to guide his action as parent.
GIlbert grapes family is different then most traditional families in the united states but, his family was not always a one parent household.
Gilbert and family grew up with two parents but it was not until his father had took his own life in with things change causing the mother to go into depression which had lead to her to become a shell of her former self. After the lost of Gilbert father his ,mother refused to move causing her to gain tremendous weight to the point in which she was unable to do the smallest task without some form of assistance.In the eyes fo gilbert as well as the other children she is sceen a bordern since each child has to take on the repsonace abiiltes to insure she as well as aritey the metally inable child functioning. It is later understood that she know that she was a fault in many of the problem in the house but it was not until her passing in which her rolls was truly understood. Although much of the family problem and anger was a fault of the mother, it was not fully understood until after her death that her true rolls as mother was understood although much of the arguing was cause by her the reason they had stay together was for her. In her apance had lead to each the children together. Both roles of the father and mother played the roles are the anchors that keep them from separating also from growing as
people. Not having a mother meant someone would have to cook clean and insure everyone was safe so GIlbert older sister took it upon herself to act as their mother. Upon acting as her mother she had to take the responsibilities of mother instead of a normal teenager. Taking upon the more role of a mother she had also upon the stresses and fears the come long trying to keep a dysfunctional family together.She had found herself having to remind Gilbert and Ellen to stop fighting as well as to remember that they have more responsibility that they can't just live there lives when they see fit.Having to remind other round you as well as yourself you can't do certain thing because two live depend on it become increasing difficult as ariney birthday comes closer. Gilbert acts as the bird winner for the family, meaning his family is dependent on him to survive as well aine his young brother to live. Gilbert is faced with the struggle of watching over a life twenty four hours a day from when he wakes up until he goes to sleep. When your watching over someone twenty four hours a day that truly does not allow a person to live a normal life. Gilbert like his other sister he wants to chance to live a normal life but is not allowed because he is responsible for his brother life. If Gilbert failes to watch him his brother dies an example was when Gilbert told his brother to take shower and dry himself to find him still in the shower suffering from hypothermia
