Gilgamesh Hero Cycle
We All Our Heroes
Everyone is a hero.We all have a problem and have a solution. Long time ago there were heroes not just spiderman,batman,and people you see threw a screen, Gilgamesh is the main character in the book called Gilgamesh The Hero By Geraldine Mcaughrean where Gilgamesh follows The Hero Cycle by Joseph Campbell, in many ways such as The Call To Adventure, Trials , and New Life.
The Call To Adventure relates to the Hero Cycle because Gilgamesh has a close friend named Enkidu that pays the price for Gilgamesh slaughtering The Bull Of Heaven, and he dies. After that Gilgamesh goes out to look for eternal life so he can live forever as well as his friend. Gilgamesh slaughters The Bull Of Heaven because Ishtar (The Goddess Of Love) ask to be married and Gilgamesh says NO, making Ishtar upset and has a talk with her father to release The Bull Of Heaven to kill Gilgamesh. The gods cast a spell upon the two friends making one of them die, but Enkidu took the blame and made him die. After his friend dies Gilgamesh starts his quest for immortality.
Throughout Gilgamesh’s journey many people told him to give up a lot of people tried to let him down and told him to give up. An example of a trial is when Gilgamesh tied rocks to his ankles and went to the bottom of the ocean to get the Plant Of Life. Gilgamesh gave the Plant Of Life to the elders and a couple of weeks later snakes ate the plant. This is a trial because Gilgamesh nearly died for getting this plant and it ended up getting eaten by snakes.
Later on Gilgamesh comes back home and has a New Life. Gilgamesh is no longer worried about having eternal life. Gilgamesh came back home, got married and has a kid named after his good friend Enkidu. Gilgamesh is no longer worried about eternal life because after all he has went through he notices that your memories, children, relative, or something that’s special to you about a person that has died or is no longer with you and will still be in your heart.
