Caso Gillette Singapur
Apreciaciones

Gillette is moving into a new market with a large advertising budget and a strong distribution chain. I expect sales in the first year to reach 3.495 million units, or roughly $3.39 million. This would represent a 15% market share of the standard quality market. With a projected market growth rate of 30% each year and an annual advertising budget of $1.2 million, sales figures are expected to grow to 23.96 million units ($23.24 million) in year five. This figure will represent a 36% market share.…

    Mexico Interview

Javier Santiago seemed reluctant at the beginning of the interview. It was troubling to see him constantly rubbing his wrinkled face, fixing his watch, and shifting his short stature on the comfortable sofa. Plus, his primary instinct to care for his sick wife did not allow him to fully immerse himself into the essence of the questions at the beginning of the session. I noticed that every few seconds he would glance at my grandmother as if she were to abruptly walk out of the living room. “¿Y para qué es esto mija?” [What is this for?] he asked me as he adjusted the collar of his white, tucked in shirt. It was as if a part of him wished to be somewhere else; perhaps my 81-year-old grandfather wished he were sleeping…

    Gillette Case Study

Gillette is a world known multinational company in shaving products market and holds more than 70% market share (Hartline 2007) in this segment. Since its very inception in 1901, Gillette has always been envied for delivering the finest shaving care products both for men and women. Besides, it has also diversified its product lines extending it to toothbrushes, toiletries, stationeries, cosmetics and other household appliances. Originated in Boston, Gillette has been dominating its domestic market in the United States since starting and then slowly and gradually becoming a global leader. This case study provides an overview of the constant product innovation by Gillette throughout its’ history and scope for further research and development in an innovation driven wet shaving market. The case also discusses the strategy of Gillette for further expanding its dominant market share around the world under the ownership and guidance of Procter and Gamble (P&G) and making Fusion – a first five-bladed razor its flagship brand. While doing this Gillette also has to face stiff competition from its premier competitors, Wilkinson Sword-Schick Company and BIC. Though being at the top, Gillette now deals with the problem of product innovation in a somewhat stagnant and mature shaving market and needs to find other ways to remain on top. The possible solutions relate to acquiring its competitors’ business, developing and expanding the women’s market and further reducing the prices to reach more customers. It calls for some broad recommendations and implementation.…

BiC’s Ultima Shaver is a new four-blade disposable shaver that will be the first of its kind to enter the disposable market. Currently disposable shavers are configured with up to three blades. BiC intends to introduce this new four-blade shaver configuration at a premium price point in the disposable market. Since this configuration is the first of its kind, careful consideration has been given by BiC for the positioning of this shaver. Two options remain attractive and are under consideration. The first option for BiC is to offer the new shaver as a mainstream product at a lower price (in the premium category) to maximize unit volume and revenues. The second option is to position the shaver as a sensitive skin niche product at a higher premium price. In this case, unit volume and revenues will be lower than the mainstream configuration, but overall profit will be maximized.…

    Gillette - a case study

The Gillette Company has a long history of being 'the first to market...' in its own areas of operation. As well as being first to market, Gillette has also continuously produced products which feature improvements to existing technologies, including 3 bladed disposables and ergonomically superior handle developments, including Sensor, Venus Divine and M3Power. For as long as products remain the only one of their kind available, the 'first mover' can establish loyalty and reputation in its brands before potential competitors get going or catch up. A Brand is thus created. There are risks to being the innovator, however. To be successful, the innovation process has to be conducted thoroughly. This usually involves a great deal of research, and in more than one form.…
