Spring 2013 Syllabus

Course Description: In this course we will explore current health issues in mental health, stress, fitness, nutrition, sexuality, disease, and drugs; all from a wellness perspective.

Course Outcome: From a holistic perspective, the course outcomes are: identify current health status, analyze health risks, and plan effective health enhancing/wellness strategies.

Course Textbook: Your Health Today – Brief – 3rd Edition. Teague, Michael L., MacKenzie, Sara L. C., and Rosenthal, David M. McGraw-Hill Publishers, 2011. Your textbook has a variety of student resources at: http://highered.mcgraw-hill.com/sites/007338092x/student_view0/index.html Withdraw: It is the responsibility of the student to process a DROP via the Web or at a Registration Office by the end of the first day of class.

Assignments: Students will be given assignments designed to assist them in assessing and reflecting upon their health status and the factors that influence their health. Instructions for specific assignments will be discussed in class. Assignments are posted on “MyPCC”, “MyCourses”, "Personal Health", “Files”, “Assignments”.

*The Lifestyle Assessment and Health and Food assignments have “field forms” inserted in them. Download the assignment, save it, open the file, type responses directly in the shaded fields, re-save the assignment, and print or e-mail the entire form for submission.
