Resumen

El uso de la información de manera estratégica por las organizaciones es crucial para su supervivencia en el mercado, haciendo que la demanda de información para el soporte en la toma de decisiones, requiera que la sociedad moderna haga uso de todos los medios que ofrecen las Tecnologías de la Información y las Comunicaciones. Por lo que el objetivo principal de este documento es describir el sistema (GISVO), basado en las nuevas tendencias tecnológicas de información georeferenciada y el análisis de datos espaciales, como un elemento de importancia creciente en la planificación, gestión y control operativo vehicular en la logística.

GISVO es un Sistema de Información Geográfico (SIG) orientado a resolver los problemas de las pequeñas y medianas empresas –distribuidoras principalmente-, relacionados a la definición, verificación y control rutas. GISVO se desarrolló usando tecnología Java y la aplicación de una estrategia de rastreo pasivo.

Actualmente GISVO se encuentra implementado en varias empresas del país y el impacto obtenido, se refleja principalmente en la disminución de accidentes por exceso de velocidad, la optimización de los recursos y la reducción del tiempo de recorrido de las ruta, debido al control del tiempo que los vehículos deben permanecer parados.

Los Sistemas de Información Geográfica, se han convertido en una valiosa herramienta de apoyo para el control logístico, en especial para aquellas organizaciones que en la actualidad cuentan con centros de distribución que reabastecen sus múltiples almacenes y puntos de venta y en donde se requiere del control estricto de las rutas y la optimización de la operación de los vehículos entre otros, ya que a través de la información que proporcionan se puede lograr
