Why is it that the media in general likes to highlight the worst aspects of the lives of celebrities and hardly make mention of the good aspects? In writing this article it would be terribly unfair for me to put all the pressure on the media alone. Therefore, in keeping with fair play, I ask why is it that we, the general public, love to read about and see the downfall and embarrassment of celebrities.
The media strives to keep their audience happy by giving them the stories which they demand. In trying to keep their audience happy, the media and paparazzi invade the lives of celebrities and wait for them to mess up, and then they take the news and plaster it on the pages of magazines and screens of entertainment channels for the world to view. We’ve all heard the saying, “desperate times call for desperate measures”, well in desperate times, when celebrities are on their best behaviour and dirty deeds are few, some media personnel and paparazzi create phony stories just to capture their audience’s attention.
This may seem like a horrible thing to do, but, what’s even more horrible is that we, the general public, find it amusing and take pleasure in reading about the skeletons hidden in the closets of our ‘favourite’ celebrities. Why is it that we, the general public, find it entertaining to read about and view the downfall of celebrities? The media exposes even the most microscopic aspects of the deep dark secrets of celebrities’ public and private life because we, the audience, demand it. It’s quite easy to understand why the media exposes celebrities the way they do; the media do it to fulfil our demand. The media strive to keep their audience, that’s us, happy and satisfied at all times. In order to do that they must invade the lives of celebrities and expose them in the way they do.
